Life in Primary 6

Well, we’ve had another busy week in Primary 6.  A large package arrived for us today which was extremely heavy.  Maybe we will find out what’s in it tomorrow?

We’ve been learning about the Glencoe Massacre.  Every few days, we’ve been watching a clip and making notes – they’ve to be short and to the point so when we refer back to them we know what the episode is about. Once we have watched all seven mini episodes, we are going to write our own eyewitness account from the point of view of a Redcoat Soldier or a Clansman or woman.

Note making is an important skill to learn as you can use it in many jobs – Police Officer, Journalist and Doctor were just a few of the jobs which we decided upon.  It’s also exciting as Clan Chief MacIain has failed to meet the deadline to swear allegiance to King William and the Redcoat soldiers are on the march, closing in on him and his clan!  Watch this space.

We’ve also been learning all about measure and we’ve been in the playground with Mrs Gilmour using chalk and measuring as well as using metre stick     to measure objects in and around the school.  Back in our class, with Mr Hunter, we’ve been learning all about fractions; simplifying them and finding out all about equivalent fractions.  He’s even brought in 12 large Dairy Milk chocolate bars but we’ve not used them yet BUT we are allowed to feel the bar and smell the chocolate just to make sure they’re real chocolate bars.

We also had our PATPAl afternoon and we were able to talk about our learning.  Mr Hunter set up different activities for us to work on.  Some of the activities included looking at payslips and identifying what PAYE is, budgeting for a few months and trying to save more than we spend and looking at the ways banks and building societies persuade young people to open up accounts by giving them welcome packs or £100 to switch accounts.  It was all very interesting and we can’t wait to come back to this.

Here’s our highlights….
