Health Week in Primary 4

Dance (6) Den Building (1) Den Building (4)

Den Building (7) Gymnastics (3) Gymnastics (6)

This week, in Primary 4, we have been extremely active.  On Monday, we went on a tour of Sainsburys and  were shown around the shop floor.  We also got to taste different types of fruit.

On Tuesday, we were given the opportunity to try artistic gymnastics which involved a mixture of floor work, vaulting and balancing.  It was great fun, but really hard work.  Later on, and once we had recovered, we went along to the village hall and had a go at some street dance.

On Thursday, and when we thought we were fully recovered, we went Den Building with Primary 6.  We had to build a shelter out of cardboard materials.  Some groups thought it was important to have beds in the shelter, whilst others opted for the ‘walls and roof’ approach to keep the rain away!  Then, in the afternoon, we played new-age bowls.  It’s similar to proper bowls, but each bowl and jack is lighter and it’s for playing indoors.  We also had our Healthy Picnic and we had a flat race.

In between, all of these activities, we were also finding out about the dangers of smoking; how many chemicals are in a single cigarette and the damage that smoking can do to your body, especially your lungs.   We also looked at what it is like to be ‘intelligent’ and e found out that there are different types of intelligence.  If you have logical-mathematical intelligence, this means that you prefer puzzles and calculations, whilst if you are bodily kinaesthetic you prefer to be active, to move about and playing games, sports and dance.  It was really interesting and we found out that we have more than one intelligence which we are drawn to – some of us even had four key intelligences attached to us.

Overall, we had a great week, but we’re glad it’s the weekend – we need a rest!
