Bellsquarry Primary School

A busy few weeks in Primary 7…

A few weeks ago we had a trip out to the Scotland Street museum in Glasgow. We went to the museum to find out more about life for evacuees in WW2. We found this very exciting and we learned lots of new things, for example that the teachers were very strict and if you misbehaved you could be hit with a long stick or belt.
Also, we have been designing and making gas masks in link with our WW2 topic. We got into pairs and discussed writing instructions to create our gas masks. We were able to then use these instructions to make our gas masks. We are planning to have our own ‘VE Day’ celebrations on the 18th December and we will be able to wear our gas masks during an air raid practise.
As part of our WW2 topic, another task that we were set was to create a mini project. Our projects were to be about Anne Frank. The information that we had to include was about Anne’s family and her diary entries. We had four weeks to complete this task; we all did fantastic jobs!
For the last few weeks, Miss. Hao has been coming in to teach us about the Chinese culture and language. In our Mandarin lessons we were given Chinese names which we were able to choose ourselves. We also learned how to write Chinese characters.
For this year’s Christmas fayre, we made candy cane reindeer, popcorn holders and ‘hot chocolate for two’. Everyone had a part to play in making all of the items. We would also like to say a big thank you to Miss. Scales and Mrs. Martin for helping us with our enterprise. We were very pleased that our final profit was over £100!
Finally we have been busy preparing for Christmas. We have had an advent calendar in the classroom and a Christmas tree. Also, we have been making Christmas story books for our buddies; writing and designing them ourselves and they look amazing! We have been practising for the Christmas service. It is next Friday, we hope that you enjoy it.
