Nursery Fun

Children have been enjoying their first term in the nursery and we have been making the most of the nice weather and getting outdoors as much as possible. Our newsletter has gone out and we will keep you up to date through the blog, newsletter and notice board of any events happening in the nursery. We have our nursery big book for you to look through in the nursery. You will find pictures and information about what your children enjoy and what they are learning inside the book. Parents are welcome to leave comments as well. nursery 014 nursery september 038 Greenrigg nursery 051 Greenrigg nursery 083 nursery 012

Word wizards in P6/5

We have been working very hard with our literacy Circles in class this week.

We have been concentrating on ‘Word Wizard’. We listened to an extract called “Maniac McGee” and had to find all the powerful words and phrases. We then discussed as a class what we thought they meant and had to explain our thoughts too.  We found it interesting that we all thought different things. We also learnt that writers can really make you think, create questions and images in your head with just a few sentences.

We can’t wait until next week where we’ll be looking at vivid verbs that authors use.

Keeping fit

We have been working on building up stamina and our fitness levels in P.E.

We have completed various exercises stations, which include ball punches, bench hops, skipping, shuttle runs, jumping jacks, sit ups, press ups and much more. We completed each station for 1 minute and rested for 1 minute in between to help our bodies recover.

We found it very hard but we know that if we persevere then our fitness levels will improve.

Our week so far in P7…

Today we had a French competition to see which table could match up the French cards to the English cards. Do you know what these sentences mean:

1. Je suis écossaise.

2. J’ai des yeux bleu

In topic this week we looked at main leaders, such as Hitler. We had a true or false class quiz. We found some of the questions tricky.

In music we planned what we were going to do, what chords to use and how fast and slow we needed our beat.

In PE we are learning about net games, in particular badminton. We are going to play doubles next week with the new skills we have learned.

P2

We are learning about dinosaurs. Today we have learnt the T-Rex is a meat-eating dinosaur and uses it’s sharp claws and teeth to eat. We also know that Tyrannosaurus Rex means tyrant lizard. It looks like Abigail is going to be eaten by a T-Rex! Luca and Sam painted a T-Rex for the classroom display.

This week in P7…

The Scotland Software Trainers, Bob and Marie, visited our class. They showed us how to make songs with Garageband on the Ipads. We have been asked to reconstruct a song from scratch and had to pick between Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’. We can’t wait to let you hear it once it is finished…although this will take us 10 weeks!!!!!

In Topic we have been learning about WW2. This week’s focus was on Hitler and his rise to power. We had to organise a timeline of events. This was quite easy as it had the dates but it was also very interesting.

In art we created imaginary flying insects for the Flower Show competition. They were all colourfully weird!

In science we tested the theory ‘People with longer arms have longer fingers’. We measured everybody in the class, our teachers and our cleaners and plotted our findings on a scatter graph. Our conclusions are different and we decided that we would need to include more people in our survey before we could decide.
