Health week and Sports day

This week was health week. On Monday, we took part in lots of workshops with lots of different teachers. We looked at healthy lunch boxes with Mrs Croser, friendships with Mrs Campbell, rounders with Mrs Bradley, relaxation with Miss Cooke, football with Mrs Monahan and yoga with Miss Loughton. On Tuesday, whe did food tasting with the pupil support workers. We tried mango, tuna, ham, cheese, broccoli, carrots, cucumber and sweet chilli. On Wednesday, it was sports day. We had races in the morning – egg and spoon, sack race and sprint race, then we had potted sports in the playground. After lunch we had an award ceremony where the winners of all the races got certificates and the winning house for the potted sports was announced. Bailie came first – well done to all the winners! On Thursday, we practised skipping with the P7/6’s. We learned about our bodies and how to stay safe around medicine. On Friday we had football with Chris and did our skipathon! What a busy week!

Outdoor sentence building

Today we went outside to continue our work on building sentences.

We choose a variety of words that we think we should be able to spell as well as using a variety of punctuation.

Our challenge was to work in a pair to build a sentence. We had to try and make sentences with the most points. We got 1 point for each word spelt correctly as well as using a full stop, 3 points if we used a question mark or exclamation mark and 5 points if we used one of our chosen words.

We really enjoyed doing this and found that it’s hard to complete sentences with a partner as we don’t always know what they’re thinking.

Transition day

Today, we had the final transition day of the year with the P1 boys and girls from Stoneyburn. We had talks from the SSPCA about the effects of litter on wildlife, and from West Lothian Waste Aware about the importance of recycling. We now know what can be recycled and why. We know where rubbish goes if we do or do not recycle and that if we do recycle, new things can be made from our rubbish!

Eco Maths in Primary 3.

In Primary 3 we have been linking Maths with our Eco work.  We collected all blue bags from around the school, estimated how much the weigh then we actually weighed them.  This was extremly hard work but was really fun to do.  We will be doing this every wek and making sure that all classes are recylcling, reusing and reducing.

P1 assembly

Thank you to all who came along to the primary one class assembly this afternoon. The children have worked extremely hard over the past week to prepare for today and we hope that you enjoyed finding out about what we have learned this year!

Making Butter!

Last week, we were learning about dairy farms. We learned that ‘dairy’ products are products that are made from milk. We had great fun being scientists and experimenting with cream to try to make butter! Unfortunately, after a LOT of shaking, our butter did not quite turn out as planned. Luckily, there was some ‘pre-made’ butter in the school kitchen, so we were still able to have our crackers and biscuits with butter, even if it wasn’t butter we had made ourselves! We had great fun being scientists and trying though!
