Marafun Day 2019

Tomorrow is our Marafun Day. Pupils should wear sports kit and appropriate shoes for the day. They should also bring a labelled water bottle and their sponsor money to school with them tomorrow. There will be an opportunity to purchase crisps/juice for 50p from a tuck shop provided by the PTA using surplus stock from the recent discos. This will in place of the Healthy Tuck as stated in the Marafun letter.

P3B are visiting Pizza Express tomorrow morning. They can wear their sports clothes and bring their school jumper with them to school to wear for the trip if they wish. The pupils will be given Braehead Primary School HiVis vests to wear for the trip as standard although are welcome to wear their jumper too is they so wish. They will have the opportunity to participate in the Marafun activities on their arrival back at school.

Thanks for your on-going support.

Coffee Stop

Mrs Lawrie will be hosting another coffee and chat tomorrow morning from 9am – 9.45am in the Discovery Base. These are very informal and a chance for parents to pop in for a tea or coffee and have a chat. Hope to see you there.

Thursday 18th April

It’s been a cracking day here at Braehead Primary. Here are our winners from our eggshibition. It was a very difficult task to choose winners. Well done to everyone who entered an egg. Happy Easter to all our families from everyone at Braehead Primary.

Waste Week Competition

We are having a competition as part of waste week to create a useful item out of materials that would normally be thrown away or recycled, for example a milk bottle bird feeder or plastic bottle piggy bank. All pupils are encouraged to take part by creating something at home with entries to be submitted by Wednesday 27th March. There will be a prize for the best P1-3 and P4-7 entries which will be announced on the 29th March.

Good luck everyone and remember, reduce, reuse, recycle!

Red Nose Day – Friday 15th March

Please remember that tomorrow is Red Nose Day (Friday 15th March 2019) and children are encouraged to wear their PJs to school for a £1 donation. There will be extra Red Nose themed activities taking place for a small donation of your choice. We are very close to reaching our target of £50 to gag Mr French and his ‘wonderful’ jokes!

Momo challenge and Internet safety

Momo challenge and internet safety

You may have seen information in the media recently about the “MOMO Challenge”, an Internet trend in which a frightening image of a woman with a distorted face and bulging eyes is shared via social media apps, such as WhatsApp.

This trend generally targets children and asks them to carry out “challenges”. Children have reported being threatened if they do not comply, which can obviously cause great distress.

Our advice to parents who are worried about this current trend, or who have questions, is to speak to their children and engage with how they are using the internet.

National Online Safety have produced a guide with information about this particular trend, and good advice on general online safety. https://nationalonlinesafety.com/resources/platform-guides/momo-online-safety-guide-for-parents/

Police have also advised parents to:

  •         Ensure they know what their children can access online
  •         Ensure children understand the importance of not giving personal information to anyone they do not know
  •         Tell their children no-one has the right to make them do anything they do not want to do
  •         Use parental controls to keep children safe

The NSPCC maintains the Net Aware website, which has lots of useful information about the use of social media by children: https://www.net-aware.org.uk/

This includes a dedicated page of information and advice about WhatsApp: https://www.net-aware.org.uk/networks/whatsapp/
