Message from the Headteacher (Updated 16.12.2021)

As we approach the Christmas Break, current mitigations within schools  in relation to COVID-19 remain in place but we are aware that Public Health Scotland are very focussed on the implications of the new strain of the virus termed ‘Omicron’. This new variant brings with it a different a different set of challenges  for all education settings and the wider community.

The First Minister  announced recently that from Saturday 11 December 2021  all household contacts of a positive case of COVID-19, whether Delta variant or Omicron variant, must self-isolate for 10 days.

At this time, schools have also been asked to remind pupils and parents/carers of the importance of Lateral Flow Device testing and other mitigations to help keep each other safe.  We have been issuing LFD test kits to students during lunchtimes to facilitate distribution of kits so that pupils can test over the Christmas break and in advance of their return to school on Wednesday 5 January 2021. This parent/carer letter can be accessed below.

COVID-19 Parent Carer letter 2021-12-09

On 16 December 2021 Public Health Lanarkshire  updated information for parents/carers in relation to positive cases of COVID-19 in schools and the actions to be taken by those considered to be a ‘low risk’ contact with a positive case.  This updated information can be found in the letter below and we will direct parents and carers to this letter when positive case are identified in school.  Rather than direct all parents and carers to the letter each time a positive case is identified, Public Health have asked that schools take a more refined approach directing a specific set of parents and carers to the letter such as those from a specific year group.

Confirmed Case Schools (secondary) Dec 2021 –

Vaccination Programme

The Scottish Government announced  previously that children and young people aged 12-15 years old, will be offered a dose of the COVID-19 vaccination from Monday 20 September 2021. This group will be offered their injections in drop-in clinics and community settings followed by each young person receiving a letter inviting them to attend a community clinic.

Following the initial phase, vaccines will be offered in both communities and schools so that anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated but would like to be has the opportunity to take up this offer.

The letter below from Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director, provides an update for parents and carers.
