S2 Computing

Desktop ComputerThe S2 Computing course aims to cover the Computing Experiences and Outcomes from Level 3 in the Technologies curricular area of Curriculum for Excellence.

Pupils will study Computing one period per week.

Our course covers the following topics:

  1. Animation
  2. Programming with Scratch
  3. Computer Systems
  4. Graphics using Serif Draw

 

Timeline for S2 Computing Course 

Time Unit Homework Assessment
Aug-Sept Computer Systems – Investigating the hardware required to build a computer system, including input, out and backing store devices.

 

Two written theory tasks A Theory test at the end of the unit. 

A Practical investigation.

Oct – Dec Animation – This covers basic animation techniques, including creating flip book as well as computer animation with Powerpoint and Pivot.

 

Three tasks, including planning and design for animations to be completed in class. A group project.
Jan – Mar Programming with Scratch – Pupils will learn how to construct simple computer games using a programming language called Scratch.

 

Two written tasks A folio of completed programs.
Apr – May GraphicsInvestigating the tools and features of a vector-graphics program called Serif Draw.

 

To be confirmed A folio of graphics to demonstrate drawing skills.
