Dear Parents and Carers

We are delighted to welcome everybody back to school for the final term of this session. As usual it will be a busy term and with more events in the pipeline but this should give you a good idea of what is being planned.

Class arrangements for next school year.

We plan to have a P1 – 4 class of 8 with Miss Laurenson and a P5-7 class of 12 with Mrs Robertson and Mrs Fraser.  Please let me know if you have any queries.

Transitions

We are implementing a programme of transitions for new P1 and new P5 pupils starting this Friday .  This will mean current ELC pupils coming into P1 at Urafirth and P4 children will spend 2 sessions per week in their new classroom on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Separate arrangements are being made for ELC pupils transitioning to P1 at Ollaberry and we will keep you informed of these plans.

Gym lessons

Miss Mhairi Gifford will be taking gym for the rest of the term starting Thursday 2nd May.  There will be additional gym lessons by the class teacher or Mrs Fraser taking place at other times so could children please have suitable kit with them or left at school? We have a box of gym shoes of all sizes in the school if anybody needs to borrow a pair as well as a good supply of clothing.

27.3.24 Noah’s Ark!!! Growing rainbows!!! Capillary action!!!

In class we read the story of ‘Noah’s Ark and the first rainbow’.  This gave us the idea to try to create our own rainbows.

We set up cups of coloured water then dipped the ends of kitchen roll into each one.  It was left overnight and we saw that the colours had climbed up the kitchen roll and stopped when they met the other colours.  We saw that the green and blue worked the best, although the green looked more like yellow.

In this experiment, we used coloured pens to make stripes at the ends of the kitchen roll then put them into water.  We watched the colours move really quickly up and along the kitchen roll to create a rainbow.  It moved so fast it was like a ‘stampede’.

25.3.24 CD hovercrafts!!

A few videos of the hovercrafts.  They were a bit tricky but everyone had success.  We even found out that sometimes it’s easy to pull up the wrong bit!!!
