My October Holiday

In the October Holidays we went Guizing(Guizing is like Trick or Treating). In the olden days they would do different sorts of guizing. They would go guizing at Christmas and New Year and would go and visit the older folk around Burravoe to cheer them up abit with lots of singing and dancing. I dressed up in white ghoul outfit and a scary mask. We started at the shop. We got a lot of sweeties and money (The money was for the Hallowe’en party which is on the 29th of October.) Hallowe’en is when witches are suppose to come out.

On a Saturday I had a cousin day with my cousins! We went swimming in the Clickimen, We played in the river rapids and on the flumes a lot of the time because we loved them. Me, Nicole, Scott and John went in the Jacuzzi, It was very,. very, very, bubbley. We went out of the swimming pool and got our clothes out of the lockers and got changed in the changing rooms. We went up to the café and got chicken nuggets, Mam, Lauren and Julie sat at a diffrent table than us other guys. Lauren couldn’t come swimming because she hurt her ankle. We went and watched a movie at the Garrison Theatre, The movie was called Cats and Dogs, The Revenge Of Kitty Galore. Auntie Julie bought us all popcorn, juice and sweeties. The movie was funny and exciting.

My Holiday

On my holiday I went to auntie Elaine and uncle David’s wedding. I went there in a bus, when we arrived we just waited around the café where they were getting married. When the wedding started Christopher was running around the front and came for a lift with me when we stood up. After we went to the dance and me and some of my cousins played around the hall because it is like a maze! In a secret room that I found there is a football table so my cousin James and his friend and me played with it. We played it until the end and I went home on the bus.

I also played the PS2. I played The Simpsons Hit and Run. I drove around doing missions and blowing up cars. I found the ROCKET CAR and got it to jump into the playground.

I went to James’ house we had two games of draughts I won the first game but I was silly on the last game so James won. After we played monopoly with Feionne, I was in the lead but mam came to fetch me James says he won, Hmmm.

RC Woodland

On the 6 of November 2010 at a woodland in Shetland it was RC Monster Truck day

RC Woodland

On the 30th of February 2010 at a humid woodland in North Mainland it was RC Monster Truck day. My monster truck was tall and red with two white stripes down the middle. It was a great drifter because it had a limited slip diff. I walked to the woodland and turned on my truck. There were lots of different trucks racing around.

I looked at the leaves falling off the deciduous trees. The first competition was to see how many fallen pine cones could fit in the back of the trucks. A man called Sean won. Sean’s truck was low and gold with a skull on the bonnet. Mysteriously a huge pine cone fell from a pine tree and knocked off one of my wheels. “Oh no” I sighed so I got my tools and got a screw and fixed it.

The second challenge was a crash test. Everyone tried and then it was my turn. I decided to put tons of power but that was stupid and rabbits evacuated from the tree. The rabbits shot in to gazillions of rabbit holes. “Shoot, I think I dented the tree” I said, ignoring the rabbits. “HA HA HA!” laughed all the other guys. In the last quarter of that event a man called Jim came with a CHAIN SAW to cut down a tree. “The chain saw doesn’t work” he said and carried on walking.”That was weird” we all whispered at the same time. We went back to what we were doing in the first place. I’d won!

The third event was to drive through a muddy hole but it started to rain. We went to trees and sheltered. The rain stopped and the muddy hole was now even muddier. I had the advantage of 4wd and I won. “OH YEAH PARTY” I shouted like I had never won before.
The fourth event was a jump test but the ramp was all soggy from the rain and had snapped somehow. We decided to make one from leaves and pine cones. We put a row of pine cones and pinned one end of the leaves on the ground and laid the other end of the leaves on the pine cones. ”There” we said. Everyone jumped (kind of) and, a few repairs of the ramp later, it was my turn. Mine was so heavy it didn’t even jump. Sean won, boo hiss.

That would have been the end but Sean and me were tied so we had a race. Everybody stood next to trees to make an oval. 3.2.1 GO! We set off. He was faster on the straights but I was faster at the corners and because of that I, err, accidentally crashed and I lost. “NO!” I cried.

Well that concludes the only time I lost. “NO WAIT” cried Jim “I got my chain saw working” Brrururururummrurm.

wood dens

Making dens in Voxter Wood

At Voxter wood me and Brydon saw dens that people made. We tried to make one each, they were pretty good but we ran out of time so they weren’t as good as the other people made.  But it was still fun nobody else in our school made one I think they were both different but still good. We used sticks that we found on the ground or somebody else had cut them down. People had also made swings and things. Brydon stuck sticks up against the tree. I found a tree with three big branches and stuck a triangle shape for the roof structure and then I made a roof and balanced sticks at the back.

Shetland Museum

Today we went to the museum in Lerwick to learn a bit more about crofting. We had our piece, then went with Steven (our guide) to see the miniature crofting area. We talked about how we had roads and fences and back then they didn’t. We then went to look at the croft house. We saw that the house back then was really different than the ones we have right now. The house was made out of stones, metal, straw and driftwood. We went to the Learning Room and filled in question sheets about what we had learned and seen. Christine came and did carding with us. We all had our own little carding boards to work with, we used wool strait of the sheep. Carding is what you do before you use a spinning wheel. We had our lunch then went for a look in the gallery.

Harvest festival

I went to the harvest festival on Sunday.A harvest festival is to thank God for the harvest . The windows had food displayed in them. We sang songs and we raided the windows later on and put it on chancel and I collected the money. Somebody read a bit from the book then Rev Neil asked a question about where Brazil is and I said where its always been! So I got to cut the papaya and show everyone. Near the end 6 of us each read a line from a poem. At the end everybody tasted fruit that was cut up, I only liked the kiwi and apple but I tried the mango and physalis but they both made my throat feel all dry.

Drama

We did drama with Kerry Jane. We pretended to be animals and we thought how people are like animals. We played 1 game,  we had to find people that looked like an  animal on a photo and in  books. We did stretching exercises. We all had to lie on the floor and shut are eyes and a imagined to meet the animal that you think you look like. After a few minutes we slowly moved up and started to be an animal we started from 100 to 0 and when we got to 0  we were human again.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

2010 Macmillan Coffee Morning_2 Today we had a Coffee Morning for Macmillan. People started to arrive at half ten when it was supposed to start. Me and Lucy went around with the raffle tickets. All our Mams came but some of the dads didn’t. There was loads of fancies and everybody seemed to have a good time. Nearly everybody near the school came. We had made rubbings for one of the displays to make the coffee morning nice and bright. Me and Lucy drew the raffle after Brydon annouced it and my mum won a cuddly dog and some chocolates. After we tidied up (mostly Jennifer, Margret and Elsie, OOPSIE DAISYS) then we sat back on our chairs in the classroom and counted the money for the raffle. We got £ 143.60 just for the raffle and we got £116.56 in the fundraising tub. We added it up and the total was £260.16.

I have put a slide show at the top of the page.
