Macdonalds

When we went to Edinburgh I went to my first ever Macdonalds. I had a happy meal which had chicken nuggets and chips in it. I got a free toy with it, the happy meals theme was Alpha and Omego. I got Katy as my free gift. If you ever go to a city or somewhere where there is a Macdonalds, I advise that you should go to it because the food was great!

Felting

On Wednesday we did some felting. First we got wool and laid strips of wool from the fleece horizontally then we got another colour and laid that strips verticaly once we had done that we had to do one more layer horizontally and we were ready to move on to the next stage. We got a measuring jug and put in 1tbs of washing up liquid in it and half a jug of hand hot water, we drizzled some of the mix over it. We got bubble wrap and wrapped the wool up in it and wrapped it up in a towel. We then rolled it back and forth 100 times then unwrapped it and turned it 90° then repeated it until we had done 800 rolls. We rubbed it on the bubble wrap for 5 – 10 minutes then picked it up and rubbed it for 5 minutes. We thoroughly rinsed it in cold water  then left it to dry.

Edinburgh Zoo

This afternoon the group who are in Edinburgh went to visit the Zoo. We went in a taxi so we could get there quickly and everyone liked the little seats that faced backwards! We saw lots of different animals and all had different favourites. We watched the penquin walk which was good even though not many penquins chose to walk!

Trip to Edinburgh

Some of the older children and Ms Breyley are visiting Edinburgh to attend a Scottish Parliamentary Reception to celebrate the work of the Crofting Connections Project. It has been quite an adventure already! We boarded the Northlink ferry in Lerwick at 6pm to come south to Aberdeen but because the weather was not too good the boat didn’t leave until midnight. By that time we were all tucked up in our bunks asleep. The crossing wasn’t too bad but our late start meant we didn’t dock in Aberdeen until 2.30pm. We then caught a train at Aberdeen and arrived in Edinburgh at 6.30pm. Most of us had never been on a train before; it was a shame that, as we were later leaving than we had planned, most of the journey was in the dark. The Crofting Connections team had organised a minibus for us so we got a lift from Waverley Station to the Youth Hostel where we are staying with lots of other pupils from Crofting Connections Schools. This evening most of the Shetland pupils have been out together to have dinner in an Italian restaurant – another first for some of us. Tomorrow morning we are all going to visit the Scottish Parliament for a tour.

Love Music Festival

Today we went to the Love Music Festival. The love music festival is about people from all over the world coming to play instruments to schools in Scotland. Jonny Axelsson came from Sweden and he was a percussionist, The Creaking Tree quartet came all the way from Canada (They were my favourite) and the Collective Istanbul came from Turkey.

Post Cards from St Clairs School in Dunedin

Yesterday we looked at the post cards from St Clairs School in Dunedin(Room 7 to be precise). First off all we looked at them by ourselves. The postcards I looked at were of the beach, the butchers and of The Esplanade. We all got in to pairs and discussed what we had learned about St Clair. We then went in big groups and discussed about the postcards we all had. We wrote all our ideas about what St Clair must be like up on the board.   They made the postcards all by themselves, They looked very creative and fun to do.  They also put some of our photos of us looking at the cards up on their blog   http://super7scoopers.edublogs.org/

I made this photo like this using Anymaking.

Old Haa Recordings

We went down to the Old Haa to listen to our recordings about rocks. I did Mica Shist and Pegmatite. This is a link to the Pegmatite audio so you can listen if you want to. The Old Haa is in Burravoe and just down the road from our school. This is a picture of us listening to the audio.

After we had listened to the audio we went into the Old Haa garden to see the new quartz Inukshuk. Then we walked back up to the school.
