Liquid water

We have been investigating water as a liquid. We noticed that it is wet, can be cold to touch and when we took a drink from our water bottle it didn’t have much taste.

Water takes the shape of the container it fills. It is clear and when you shine a torch light through it you can sometimes see rainbow colours.

Our water balloons are going in the freezer. What do you think will happen to the water inside the balloons?

Tens and Units

We practiced T and U sums in the playground using chalk. It was fun working with our learning partners and exploring numbers in this way.

The hailstones storm washed our sums away but, we got the chance to talk about water in its solid state as hail and then liquid when it melted. This showed us that water exists in different states in nature.

Tsunami or great wave?

In Science we have been investigating water. It is an element that we find in nature.

We discovered the Art work of the Japanese artist Hokusai. He made many prints from wood blocks. Here we have examples of our interpretations of Hokosai’s,”Great wave.” We used pen and then added water with a brush to create the effect of water colours.

Can you spot the boats in some of our waves? We have also been discussing whether or not the wave is a huge wave or a tsunami. What do you think? Look at the size of Mount Fuji in the distance.

We added some cranes in the sky as they are popular birds in Japan.

It was fun exploring water in Art and discussing the work of a famous artist.

Growing Plants

We have been learning about what plants need to grow & today we planted some sunflower seeds. We know they need soil, sunshine, water, air and space to grow. We have put them on our sunny windowsill and we are going to keep a close eye on them over the next wee while to see if we can spot any signs of growth.

Telling the time

We have been learning to tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past. Today there were clocks displayed around the room & we had fun finding them all and writing down the times.  The clocks were in analogue time and we had to write them in digital time. If you want to practice telling the time at home, use the website link below.

Being kind

We have been thinking about how to be good friends and show kindness to others. We made fortune tellers that gave us lots of ways that we can be kind. We had great fun sharing our fortune tellers and we are going to try to show kindness in lots of different ways.

Picture plans

Our writing focus this term is procedure. We had some fun this morning building Lego models than planning out what we will write tomorrow.

On our plan we have to have a title, a goal, a list of the materials we need to build the model then finally the steps we need to follow to make it.

Some of the picture plans are very detailed and this will help us when we do our writing tomorrow.

Back to school!

We have had a lovely first week back and we have really enjoyed playing together in the sunshine. We have also been working very hard in class. We looked at cherry blossom trees in art. We learned how to create shades of colour with paints then we used cotton buds to make the blossom. We had to carefully add tiny amounts of the darker colours to make sure we created the correct shade. We are proud of our pictures and we are glad spring is here so we can enjoy the better weather.

Successes of the week.

This afternoon we had a quick discussion about what has gone well for us at school this week.

Here are some of our thoughts,

  • ” We behaved better.”
  • ” We have got better at listening.”
  • ” We have been better at sharing things.”
  • ” We’ve been more respectful.”

Our teacher agreed with us and we have had a lovely week in Primary 3. A super start to the summer term!
