Feed the birds

In our Science topic we have been learning what living things need to survive.

Birds need a little help in the Winter to find food and water so we made a simple bird feeder from half an orange.

The strings we measured to 30cm with our ruler so, we had to use Maths in real life too. Our bird feeders can be filled with seed or water.

We are really looking forward to spotting birds feeding from our feeders over the Winter.

Caring for others

Thank you to Mrs. Belleville for organising our links with Riverside. We had a lovely time discussing how we can think of others over the festive season and how it would be a very thoughtful thing to do if we wrote letters to residents in the local care home.

We also enjoyed making poinsettia Christmas cards. This fitted in with our Living and non-living things topic. We had to look very very closely and study  the leaves of the plant and draw their veins. These plants grow best in Rainforests and they like the heat. It was much more challenging than we thought it would be.

We hope the residents at Riverside are cheered up by our festive designs and letters.

Winter Art

P3 have been learning about Living Things in science and they have enjoyed exploring and looking for living things in our school environment. They have applied their understanding to their artwork as they focused on drawing detailed pictures of Autumn leaves and trees, making thick and thin lines.

This week our challenge was to apply the same skills using chalk. The children did a fantastic job and used blending techniques to make the trees and leaves look frosty.

Wiggle waggle

We have been reading texts about different animals but, one of our favourites so far has to be about the honeybee. We think their waggle dance sounds like a great way to communicate with each other.

When we have read our text we take notes, make a labelled plan and then we write an information report.

Our evaluations were  all very personal to us. Some of us like the honeybee because they are gentle and make honey and some of us do not like the honeybee because it can sting if it feels threatened.

It is good to talk about the reasons we have for our opinions and to realise that it is okay to think differently from others.

A helping hand

We really enjoyed the silence of the Pixar clip we watched in last week’s Assembly. We liked the fact that the little bird was helped out by others when it got into difficulties.

So, we decided to make our own silent stories about helping others.

Click on the link above to watch one of the stories where you can try and try again but, it can be someone else helping you out that helps you to succeed and overcome hurdles.
