Wiggle waggle

We have been reading texts about different animals but, one of our favourites so far has to be about the honeybee. We think their waggle dance sounds like a great way to communicate with each other.

When we have read our text we take notes, make a labelled plan and then we write an information report.

Our evaluations were  all very personal to us. Some of us like the honeybee because they are gentle and make honey and some of us do not like the honeybee because it can sting if it feels threatened.

It is good to talk about the reasons we have for our opinions and to realise that it is okay to think differently from others.

A helping hand

We really enjoyed the silence of the Pixar clip we watched in last week’s Assembly. We liked the fact that the little bird was helped out by others when it got into difficulties.

So, we decided to make our own silent stories about helping others.

Click on the link above to watch one of the stories where you can try and try again but, it can be someone else helping you out that helps you to succeed and overcome hurdles.

Plant life

As part of our topic about living and non-living things we have been doing an experiment in our classroom.

There were three unhealthy plants in our class and we talked about what they need to grow and thrive.

We know they need water, sunlight and oxygen. So, we have been trying to care more for our plants  over the last few weeks.

Someone suggested re-potting the plants to give them more space to grow. We still have to do this but, so far two of the plants are already looking much healthier since we have spent more time looking after them.

Lest we forget

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day and we have been learning a lot about the Poppy story.

We will all be silent at 11 o’clock and think about the servicemen and women who have died in battle.

Poppies grew in the muddy battlefields of Flanders and we now think of them as a symbol of Remembrance Day.

We made some poppy wreaths  to display in our windows.

Looping numbers

We have been learning a new strategy of looping objects to help us to see groups of 5 easier. Looping objects  also helps us to count numbers faster.

we started off by using counters and drawing them in groups of 5 then we moved on to  looping drawings of objects.

This activity also helped us  count in fives.

Spooky fun !

Our design brief was to create a lantern for our glowing pumpkin balloon.

Here are some of the amazing 3D lanterns we designed.

What’s amazing is that they all look so different. We enjoyed having some personalisation in our designs.

We are hoping to have some spooky fun tomorrow night with our glowing lanterns.

Happy Hallowe’en everyone !
