Flying High with Reading
We have all been impressed with the creative and imaginative solutions to the latest creativity challenge. I think the library is going to look fantastic when the display is finished.

Holmston History
We recently received an email from Canada with a photograph attached that was found in the scrap book of a lady who grew up in Ayr. It is thought to have been taken around 1940. Do you recognise anyone – or do you have any other old photos? If so please send them in.
Read, Write, Count P2 and P3 Parents
The Scottish Book trust is carrying out an evaluation of the Read, Write, Count packs that were sent home with the Primary 2 and primary 3 pupils earlier in the school year. If you are a parent of a child in either of these year groups please click the link below to complete the survey. There is a prize of a personal Read, Write, Count Goodie bag filled with books, games and activities for all the family to enjoy.

School Bank Urgent!
Our school bank will have to close if we cannot secure some more parent volunteers for after the Easter Break. If you are able to give up some time, once a week, this would enable us to keep the bank running. The school bank is an excellent way to support your children to budget and save. Pupils have started saving in P5 to pay for the residential trip in Primary 7.

Celtic Connections 25th Anniversary Concert
Our P4 – P7s enjoyed a trip to the Glasgow Concert Hall today. This was the opening concert and was a celebration of 25 years of the Celtic Connections Festival. Now well ingrained into Glasgow’s cultural life, the festival has gone from strength to strength. This morning’s concert featured performers that have helped make the Festival what is, including Orkney’s Saltfishforty and the Highland quintet, The Elephant Sessions. The pupils enjoyed dancing to the music.

Walk Once a Week – WOW – Campaign
A happy New Year to all our families and as we start the New Year our JRSOs have launched a new initiative to encourage pupils to actively travel to school at least once a week. To launch the WOW campaign we had a special visit from Strider the Mascot and Rebecca from Living Streets to tell us about the project. Each month if a pupil meets the target for walking, scooting, cycling or park and striding they will receive a special badge – we hope lots of pupils will earn all 12. Further information for parents will be sent out in a letter. Here are some pictures of Strider with our JRSOs.

Merry Christmas
We would like to wish our our families and friends a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. School will re-open on Monday 8th January 2018.

Winter Wonderland 2017
Our Winter Wonderland has been a highlight of December. All the pupils were involved in planning and organising this event. The focus was on developing creativity skills including: asking good questions; researching information; listening to others; thinking differently about ideas: inventing; solving problems; persistence and co-operation. All the classes visited the event and tried out all the games and experiences. They also had the opportunity of purchasing Christmas ornaments that had been designed and made from re-cycled items.
Glee Club Community Christmas
Our Glee Club visited Belleview Nursing Home today to perform a variety of Christmas songs to the residents. They sang beautifully and enjoyed a snack and a chat with the ladies after the performance. They were excellent ambassadors for the school.
P1 – P3 Nativity and Winter Wonderland
It certainly feels like Christmas now that the P1 – P3 Nativity has been staged. All of the pupils enjoyed performing ‘A Midwife Crisis’ to parents and families today and yesterday. They sang and acted with great confidence – it was an absolute pleasure to watch.
At the shows, Primary 6 sold Christmas ornaments that had been made by pupils. The decorations were made from recycled materials and will also be sold next week during our ‘Winter Wonderland’ – an event organised by the pupils as part of their work on developing creativity skills. Excess stock will be sold to parents on Wednesday 20th December in the Infant Playground.
Dance Competition Winners!
Well done to our P3 and P4 Dance Club. They achieved second place in the South Ayrshire Dance Competition. We would like to thank the Belmont Dance Leaders – Rachel and Sarah – for choreographing and leading the Dance Club. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves – and half of the pupils had already performed a Nativity before this event too! Congratulations to all the boys and girls.

Scottish Showcase
We really enjoyed sharing our learning and performing to our friends and families during our Scottish Showcase. To celebrate St. Andrew’s Day each class studied an aspect of Scottish Culture and learned a Scottish song. P6 and P5 also shared the social dances they had learned for the Day of Dance in Troon. We found out all about the diversity of Scotland, the food, famous Scots, artists, Viking attacks, the Wars of Independence and the History of Ayr. The show was a complete sell-out. Burns Alicht Ticket Giveaway
To celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018 we have a limited number of FREE Burns Alicht tickets (Sat 27 Jan 2018) to give away to young people aged 8-26!
This unique sparkling tour of the birthplace of Robert Burns in Alloway features special illuminated landmarks, the burning of John Barleycorn plus new attractions and entertainment!

THE CHILD’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND PROOF OF ADDRESS MUST BE PRODUCED ON THE DAY OF REGISTRATION (e.g. a copy of your Utility Bill or Council Tax Notice etc.)

Change of Date for Winter Service
Please note that we have to change the date of our Winter Service to Thursday 21st December 9.45am at the Auld Kirk instead of Friday 22nd as previously mentioned. The service will be led by our Primary 4 class and all parents and family members are invited.
