Welcome to P2,
This year our teachers are Miss Cronin and Mr Martindale.
Our P.E days this year are a Monday(PM) and a Thursday (AM)
Please pack a pair of indoor shoes for P.E, children are encouraged to wear a polo shirt and shorts underneath uniforms to make changing easier.
Class Dojo 
Please join our class dojo to keep up to date with class news, photos and more! You can use dojo to view the points your child has been given and to view our class dojo story. In order to join, please ask the teacher for your access code.
Homework 
Homework will be issued on a Monday and is to be submitted on a Friday.
Each week there will be spelling and reading homework.
Please return red folders to school each day, especially on Friday when we update reading books for the following week.
Pupil Parliaments
Pupil Parliaments will commence this term your child will be able to tell you the Parliament they are representing after our first meeting.
The Children are now familiar with their parliament and have been completing related tasks.
Reminder
Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced!
Could we respectfully ask if children have indoor shoes for P.E days – especially if wearing boots or wellies to school.
Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…
Literacy
For writing this term, we are continuing with our talk for writing approach. We will look at non fiction writing like instructions.
As part of our Scotland focus we will be writing some poetry.
We have started an author focus and are looking at Julia Donaldson first.
Our Grammar is all linked to Talk for Writing. We have been learning about positional language and verbs to begin with.
Each week the children will practice a spelling sound and use it to think of and write words with the sound.
Numeracy
This term we will be focussing on basic functions and continuing addition and subtraction. We have introduced multiplication and this will be with the 2 and 10 times tables to begin with.
For Maths we will be looking at: tartan patterns, data handling and time.
ipads and the class smartboard are used for interactive maths games and for using Sumdog. The children now have access to QR codes for their log ins and for selected games.
Health & Wellbeing
We will be focussing on dance and gymnastics within our P.E sessions. PATHS will continue in term 2 which encourages children to talk about and identify how they are feeling.
In class we will be looking at online safety this term.
Broad General Education
We will be encouraging outdoor play and learning where possible.
Play based learning encourages development of creative skills, use of imagination and social skills such as teamwork, sharing and turn taking.
Following on from this we will be discussing “Skills” with the children on a regular basis eg. Teamwork, creativity, social skills.
The children have chosen to focus on an author study this term we will also have Scottish activities through the end of January/ Early Feb to tie in with Burns’ Day and our Scots verse learning.
We will continue our modern languages with French, namely: body parts and describing how we look.
