Homework

Homework will be issued weekly. Homework will be issued at the start of the week and should be completed by the end of the week. Homework diaries have log in details for various programmes to support learning.  It is at your discretion if your child completes homework and submissions will no longer be recorded.  Any time spent on homework and learning is appreciated.

Reminder

Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced!

Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…

Literacy

Talk 4 Writing

In writing we will be following a weekly spelling planner, some independent Grammar work and linked to Talk4write lessons, Handwriting and our Talk4Write lessons.

In reading we will be using Accelerated Reading and Library choices.  We have taken a note of the children’s interests and have updated our class library with some new books. We will also focus on comprehension activities to understand the meaning of a text, the authors message, retelling parts of a story in our own words and character descriptions through our weekly guided reading lessons. We will also be encouraging skills for life through our listening and talking programme looking at taking turns, sharing in our own words and some note taking for main points. We will also focus some time on sharing our facts and opinions in literacy/HWB and Global goals lessons.

Numeracy

NumBots | ttrs-logo

This term we will be encouraging TTRS for practising times tables. We will also be looking at addition and subtraction Number Talks and later Beat that Maths to develop speed and accuracy in mental agility. We will also have weekly opportunities to develop mental agility with various dice games/active games and puzzles to encourage using all 4 operations to add/subtract/multiply and divide for children to extend and develop their own ability levels. We will look at estimation and rounding, place value up to 5- and 6-digit numbers and Measure: length, weight and volume capacity.

Health and Wellbeing

The Zones of Regulation, Inc.

We are establishing our Class Charter with our rules and routines to have a happy, safe and healthy working classroom environment.  Also we will create our growth mindset display to encourage us throughout the year to always give our best and support each other with our learning. We will use our Zones of Regulation weekly lessons to check in on our feeling and encourage ways to manage our comfortable and uncomfortable feelings as they happen.  We will also be looking at our knowledge of Physical health by developing our awareness of substance misuse and keeping our bodies healthy with eating a balanced and varied diet.

BGE

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture - ISGLOBAL

This term we will be working collaboratively with P5/4 weekly on our Global Goals topic theme of Zero Hunger. Later on we will be working with our Emotional health to encourage Friendships and ways to support each other in and out of school. We will also be looking at Technology: Cyber resilience and some drama linked to our Talk4write.  Our music will link with Global goals, musical cups lessons to work on rhythm and some work with Charanga using the glockenspiel.  In modern languages Mr Martindale will be covering French this term.  Later in the year we will look at RME; what is religion and Papa Panov around Christmas time.  Digital literacy will permeate through our curriculum in Numeracy, Literacy Global Goals and Health and Wellbeing.

We very much look forward to sharing the learning with you through Class dojo profiles, at parents meetings and sharing home liaison folders throughout the year together.
