Block 2 Class Information
This year our P.E days will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child has their kit with them on these days.
Important Dates :
February Long weekend: 7th-12th February (inclusive)
Homework is given out twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Spelling and Reading homework is given out on Mondays and Maths homework on Tuesdays. Please ensure that pupils complete the homework by the required days. Mr Davies is happy to help any children who are finding the tasks tricky. All children have been provided with a homework folder.
Reading: The class are using a guided reading programme this term, focusing on reflective reading, comprehension tasks and reading with the teacher. We continue to use the Accelerated Reading programme and have plenty of ERIC time!
Writing: Primary 5 are focusing on personal and persuasive writing this block. We are learning to write with emphasis and a strong tone to convince the audience of our arguments.
Grammar/Spelling: The class undertake one grammar lesson a week from our Jolly Grammar book. For spelling, children work from different Jolly Spelling books, undertaking a Spelling test on Friday mornings. Spellings should be learned properly in advance of handing the homework in on Thursday.
French: P5 will be learning French this term! We are currently covering greetings, food and drink and the French calendar.
Primary 5 have been focusing on angles, symmetry and coordinates so far this block. We will also be looking at shape and time further along before Easter. Maths homework will always tie in with the week’s learning.
Health and Wellbeing :
As well as our weekly PATHS lessons, the children will learn about food groups, nutrition and the importance of physical exercise. The class continue to be reflective in PATHS and have developed an excellent attitude towards helping others and being mindful of other people and their emotions.
Broad General Education :
The class are learning all about Living Things in Science, looking at animal habitats, food chains and organisms.
Technologies: P5 are learning how to access Glow and work on Office 365 and One Drive, as well as tackling some tough coding challenges!
How Can You Help at Home? :
We are very reflective in Primary 5, and know when we need practice at certain things. Any extra practice at home can assist in complimenting the pupils’ learning in class. Please also be sure to check for diaries and letters every day. I would appreciate if diaries could be checked and signed each week. Thank you!
Class Gallery :
We will update the class gallery as the year goes on – watch this space!
