Block 5 Class Information
Mr Davies and Mrs McGhee (Monday PM)
This year our P.E days will be on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure your child has their kit with them on these days.
Important Dates :
Bank Holidays: Monday 6th May, Friday 24th May and Monday 27th May.
Homework is given out twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Mrs McGhee gives out Spelling on a Monday and Mr Davies gives out Maths and Reading on a Tuesday. Please ensure your child completes the homework on time as this helps in giving prompt feedback to the pupils. Mr Davies and Mrs McGhee are happy to go over any homework in class which children are finding tricky! Homework is always linked to class learning for that week as much as possible.
Reading: The class are continuing their guided reading programme this term, focusing on reflective reading and identifying key words and information. We also have begun the Accelerated Reading programme which encourages personalisation and choice as well as a deeper understanding of the texts read.
Writing: Primary 5 are continuing to focus on persuasive writing this block. We are learning to use more imaginative vocabulary in our writing and ensuring we use paragraphs and headings regularly.
Grammar/Spelling: We have begun a new Jolly Grammar book, introducing the children to concepts such as antonyms, synonyms and plural nouns.
French: P5 will be learning French this term! We have already started practicing common phrases involving days of the week, months and pets.
Primary 5 are completing their topic on Measurement, before moving on to analysing data and interpreting statistics and graphs. We will also be recapping the four key functions in detail later this term.
Health and Wellbeing :
As well as our weekly PATHS lessons, the children will continue to learn about safety in winter. We will also look at nutrition and how to maintain a healthy diet. The class have been particularly reflective in PATHS and have developed an excellent attitude towards helping others and being mindful of other people and their emotions.
Broad General Education :
The class are enjoying investigating their new class topic, Natural Disasters. In pairs the children are currently constructing profiles on a Natural Disaster of their choice.
RME: The class will receive a weekly RME slot this term, with our focuses being on Easter and other religious festivals around the world.
How Can You Help at Home? :
We are very reflective in Primary 5, and know when we need practice at certain things! Ensure your child understands the homework, and use any opportunity to get some more learning in. Please also be sure to check for diaries and letters every day. I would appreciate if diaries could be checked and signed each week. Thank you!
Class Gallery :
We will update the class gallery as the year goes on – watch this space!
