Primary 5

Happy New Year and Welcome back P5!

Our P.E. days are Monday and Thursday

Class Dojo
Please join our class dojo to keep up to date with class news, photos and more! You can use dojo to view the points your child has been given and to view our class dojo story.

Microsoft Teams
To help us continue to develop the skills we learned over remote learning, each class from P4-7 has a class Microsoft Team. This team will be used to issue homework each week. Pupils can use the team to access and submit their homework. Teachers will then provide feedback via Microsoft Teams. Pupils can access Microsoft Teams using their glow login and password. If you are unable to access Microsoft Teams at home, a paper copy of the homework will be issued in school.

Homework
Each week, Primary 5 will receive Reading, Literacy and Numeracy homework. All homework will be issued on a Tuesday to be returned on a Friday. The types of homework task assigned each week will vary between written and active tasks.
The homework assigned each week will be noted in your child’s homework diary and posted on our class Microsoft Team.
Please continue to regularly use our digital ICT resources ‘Sumdog’ and ‘Nessy’ at home.

Reminder
Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced!
Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…

Literacy

Reading – Your child will have a reading book for homework each week. We have a range of genres of books available through our accelerated reading scheme. Children can access quizzes to show understanding of what they’ve read. Each week your child will undertake a Guided Reading session where their teacher will assess different skills for reading.

Writing – We are working hard through a Talk for Writing topic called Keep pf the Tracks. This is a warning story with a focus on dialogue.

Spelling – Mrs McGlinchey will be leading Spelling and grammar.

Listening & Talking – Children engage in a range of Talking and Listening activities throughout the week including group and paired work.

Numeracy

Learners are making great progress through the Numeracy curriculum and partake in a wide range of written, active, group and outdoor activities weekly. This term we will cover Multiplication and Division and Fractions.

Health & Wellbeing

This term Mrs McGlinchey will be teaching PATHS. Mrs McPherson will be focussing on social and emotional wellbeing as well as food health.

Broad General Education

P5 will be deciding which Scots learning we take on for our IDL in line with some Burns celebrations in January. We will be learning Scottish dance in PE before moving onto possession games. We are continuing our exciting Goblin Car STEM project and will have visits from students from GCU in February.
