We were delighted to be accredited as a Reading School in June 2022.
Here are a few of the things we do at Bargarran to allow us to proudly call ourselves a Reading School.
- We have a Reading Leadership Group. The group continue to meet regularly to discuss ideas to promote and continue the implementation of Reading across the school. Here is a photo of our hard-working group.
- Learners continue to act as reading role models by talking about books they’ve read at assemblies. Using book recommendations and bookmarks for their peers.
- Staff reading role models by displaying signs in class to show what they are reading. Giving opportunities to let learners see them read.
- School environment– each class has an appealing reading areas, we provide learners with cushions/ beanbags allowing them to be comfortable when reading for pleasure. We have attractive reading displays featured around the school.
- Erskine Library – during the session 2021-2022 each class had a visit to the local library. Every child had the opportunity to pick a book. Visits will be arranged again in Spring 2023.
- ERIC Time – Each class puts aside a daily time for ‘everyone reading in class’ together. This may be pupils reading independently, paired reading or being read aloud to by the class teacher.
- Bargarran Bookworm – P4-7 pupils are always working hard to win one of our fantastic Bargarran Bookworm awards. We recently had our first millionaire word winner!
