Article 3 March 2022-Best Interests of the Child

Article 3 is one of the most important articles in the UNCRC, and many other articles are related to it. It says that the interests of children and young people should be thought about at all levels of society, and that their rights should be respected by people in power.

In other words, it says adults should think about the best interests of children and young people when making choices that affect them.

Canaan Barrie Signs

Canaan Barrie Sign System

Signing is a very effective way of encouraging a person’s communicative understanding and the understanding of spoken language. Importantly, it provides an accessible means of self-expression.

The Canaan Barrie ‘on body’ signing approach was developed in order to make signing, which is a visual means of communication, both meaningful and relevant to the person with complex support needs through the use of touch and other available senses. The method includes signing ‘in front’, ‘on body’ and ‘hands over.’

Practical Understanding of Autism – Early Years

For parents of early years children (up to 8 years old) who have either got a diagnosis of autism or have been referred for an autism specific assessment.  This training is delivered in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council Early Years Inclusion Team.

Information on Training – Please read carefully before booking

We believe the key to great support happens when people invest in learning, and that we should be putting things that help in place early.

Through consultation of our families and wider stakeholders, we have developed our new training mode – Theory-Practice-Evaluate.

Delegates should attend all three sessions to get the best out of the learning, so please ensure you note when all three sessions take place.

The sessions will cover theory of autism, practical strategies aimed at young children and a chance to meet other parents and ask questions.

Sessions will be held face to face.

Session 1: 26/8/22 – We will deliver an information session on the general understanding of autism, how we can look beneath what we see to realise the underlying reasons and what this may mean for our children

Session 2: 2/9/22 – Thinking about what we understand about autism, we will discuss some practical supports that can be implemented for our children

Session 3: 9/9/22 – In our final session we will discuss some more practical advice but also have a chance to think about the strategies we will try moving forward, any challenges we feel we might have in implementing any change and a general Q&A on autism with our trainers

Costs:

Registered Parents/Carers of Perth Autism Support – Free

Parents/Carers not registered with Perth Autism Support – £15 (total for all 3 sessions)
