Today we combined two of the physical Advent Calendar activities. We walked around the playground and made the shapes of teams of reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh. Don’t we look good?
We worked together to identify fact and opinion in short passages and are getting better at justifying what we think.
This afternoon we were making money totals, reminding ourselves of the different notes and coins that we can use and using different combinations to find the same total.
We have been starting the day with some groovy moves from our physical Advent calendar. Today we were doing tuck rolls. We are continuing to work hard on our reading comprehension and compass points in maths.
This afternoon we looked at different instruments to measure weather and checked how accurate the weather forecast was today. We also added some details to our Picasso-inspired paintings.
Today’s Advent Calendar activity was an activity which we did outside. There were 4 teams and we used the bean bag to play over and under. The winning team got a point each for their group.
We started to think about the meaning of Advent and the birth of Jesus.
We will be following the progress of Joseph and Mary and making more links to our Nativity.
It’s December! Can’t believe we have only 3 weeks until Christmas!😊 This year we have an Advent calendar which is linked to our HWB work on keeping healthy.
We enjoyed being active outdoors and did our star jumps outside. We shouted “Happy first of December” which seemed more appropriate!
We followed the instructions on the playground trail, jogged, side-stepped and enjoyed the fresh air.
This afternoon we started to explore ways that people receive money and the methods we have to spend money. We learnt that the first coins were created about 700 B.C. and notes were given as receipts by goldsmiths when they were storing gold and silver for people.
We had a great St Andrew’s Day. Everyone looked so cool in their tartan. After number, French and ICT, we had a special St Andrew’s Assembly presented by P5/6.
We were told lots of facts about St Andrew. We sang songs with actions like ” The 3 craws” and there was an inter- house quiz where we could earn points for our houses.
Tomorrow we will be writing a recount piece of writing about today, so we will have lots to write about.
Firstly, what a great job Primary 4 have done in preparing the Snowman Soup. They look wonderful and apparently taste delicious!
They are still available to buy either tomorrow or at the Christmas Fayre. Still only £1 and the best value yet!
In P. E. we were developing our skills using a racquet. The number of keepie-ups improved for most people and there was better control of power and direction when hitting the ball.
We started a section of learning about fact and opinion. We took part in some different activities which tested our understanding about the subject.
We worked together to identify facts and opinions, justify our choices and then thought of our own facts and opinions about 4 subjects.
We had great fun today getting active for Pudsey. We were thinking about Article 24 about a clean and safe environment and Article 31 the Right to relax and play . There are children who do not enjoy the same Rights as ourselves, but we have contributed to Children in Need and hopefully will make some children’s lives a little better.
In P.E. we were practising our stretches during warm up. We also learned top tips for balancing on one leg without wobbling and hopping about! We learnt how to hold our bat properly so that have more control. Then we were practising keepy-uppies with a sponge ball. We are going to try to improve our scores each week to demonstrate how our skills are improving.
This afternoon we were focusing on vertical addition. We were going over what we had learnt in Primary 3 and are ready to practise additions ourselves. Can you explain to someone how to add using exchange?
Remember to wear your spots for Pudsey tomorrow. It will be a fun day, but with a focus on children who are not able to have the same Rights as ourselves.
Today’s learning has been all about the board games. We designed the board with our own theme and used tiling shapes for the pathways
.
Once the board was completed, we had to think about the numbers going round the board. Each group had their own patterns to think of and use. When the numbers were added, we thought of interesting consequences e.g. Move 2 plus 5.
This afternoon we wrote the instructions for our games. There was a lot to think about! Finally we had the chance to play someone else’s game using their instructions. It was fun to share our learning.
Here we are peer checking each other’s instructions.
