Homework 5/9/17 – 11/9/17

Homework from 5/9/17 until 11/9/17

Language

Spelling words:

Everyone has their own sheet to practise. Look at the top line this week. Please say, listen to, read and write out the words. If the word does not look correct when you have written it, remember the picture of what it looks like when you read it.

This is a great site for practising sight and spelling words. You can work through from the beginning or use the word lists which are trickier for you. You choose the way which will help you to learn and improve!

Number

We are extending our understanding of number order and place value into the thousands. Already we have been learning that there are 4 place values for a thousands number –Thousands, Hundreds, Tens, Units.

http://www.topmarks.co.uk/place-value/place-value-charts

This site helps you to build up your understanding of place value, so again, you choose where to start and progress at your own pace. Please do not go beyond  Th, H, T, U.

Choose 4 different digits from a phone number e.g. 5  9  1   6

Change the numbers round so that their place means that they change their values. Which is the biggest number, which is the smallest number and how many numbers can you order in between? Use units to start with e.g. 1 5  6  9 and build up as you get more confident e g 15  16  19  56  59  etc.

Interdisciplinary Learning

As already mentioned in the class blog last week. This week there is the Viking Festival in Largs. If you can make it over there next Saturday, it will be a great experience for the children and a great way of bringing the Viking topic to life!  Check out the website https://largsvikingfestival.org for more details.

jeudi le trente et un août

We have found out that our topic for this term is going to be “VIKINGS”!! We will be exploring the world of the Vikings and especially their influence on life in Scotland in the past and present.  There is a fantastic Viking festival held in Largs  from 2nd to 10th September  If you can, I would strongly recommend going along to the festival – it is a great day out! You can try out making Viking jewellery, using weapons, playing Viking games and preparing food as well watching an exhilarating re-enactment of the Battle of Largs on the evening of 9th.  Check out their website for further details:

In Largs there is also Vikingar, which if full of interesting interactive exhibits about Vikings. Take a look at some of the activities on the site.

We are continuing to establish our classroom routines and settle into Primary 4!

Today we started to think about our French Comic Life conversations. This is a program that is new to many of us, so we are exploring its features. Our characters will be using French words, so there is a lot of learning taking place!

Continuing our work on place value, we were using the number fans to show numbers, count on and back using the digit values and finally we all chose 3 digits to make a number and we put our numbers in order from smallest to largest – as you can see, some pupils had the same idea and the number 987 was very popular!

Today we have sorted out our group names and have looked at the class Dojo system. We only use this in class, so there are no connections to home. People are keen to earn points for themselves and for their groups, so please remember your PE kits tomorrow to earn some Dojo points.

We were using our retrieving skills to find information from texts and we were also learning more about place value in number.

Monday 21st August 2017

It was lovely for me to meet the new primary 4 class today.  We had a busy day with revising some number work, assembly, art and even creating some challenges using fidget spinners!  Why don’t you see if you can think up some more at home?

This morning we signed up to our new Class Charter. This means that we agree to uphold the Rights that we have chosen as being important to our class.

These Rights are easy to achieve and help us to enjoy our learning.

This afternoon, we showed great listening and the ability to follow instructions. We made our own pencils as a link to the new huge pencils in our classroom!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone and we look forward to seeing you next week.

jeudi le dix-sept août

Welcome back! We hope that everyone has had a great summer holiday. It has been lovely to see everyone so smart and smiley today! Days for P.E. are Tuesday and Thursday , so unless you can tie your own tie, it would be sensible to leave it at home on those days.  Have a good sleep and I look forward to seeing you bright and breezy tomorrow.

Tuesday 27th June 2017

The last two full days of primary 4 have been Harry Pottertastic!!!

We have been making our own wands, designing our own potions, and sorting ourselves into houses and mixing a potion to ensure our readiness for p5.

Only half a day to go tomorrow with Mrs Macleod but I won’t be in so I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a lovely summer holiday and good luck for primary 5!

vendredi le vingt-trois juin

We were thinking about how to stay safe near the roads and thought about how materials can help us to be seen more easily. We made reflection testers and then tested the reflectivity of different materials.

We then used our results to design a school bag which would help to keep us safe from traffic in the dark winter months.

Have a well deserved relaxing weekend P4!
