Homework from 7/11/17 until 13/11/17

Language

Spelling words: This week look over the words from rows 4, 5, 6 and 7 of your spelling wall.

Choose the 6 words that you find trickiest from the 24 words /any of the rows. Write them out 3 times and write 6 sentences including one of the tricky words in each sentence (underline the tricky words). I will be testing 12 words at the end of the week.

Reading

You have been given a school book to read at home.  Please look after it and remember to have it in your bag each day.   Read out loud from your book to an adult to practise your word attack strategies, fluency and expression.

J.K Rowling group – read chapter 3    Please read the chapter before reading on Wednesday.

Roald Dhal group – read whole book   Please read p1-16 for Wednesday and p17-32 for Thursday

David Walliams group – read whole book

Number

We have been looking at number patterns this week. Everyone has their own number patterns to complete.  Remember to look at whether the pattern goes bigger or smaller and focus on the intervals between the numbers (e.g goes up in 1s, goes down in 10s.)

Try some of the different pattern and sequencing games and this site:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Interactive.aspx?cat=20

I have allocated some new games on Activelearn, so please try to access the site.

Interdisciplinary Learning – you have a fortnight for this task (due in latest 20th November)

Research a famous male or female Viking.

Find out:

·         The person’s name

·         Where they were from

·         What they have done to make them famous

·         Any other interesting facts

·         Include a drawn or printed picture of the person.

Make sure that you use your own words and understand what you have written. DO NOT just copy chunks of information from a book or the internet.

In our P.E. lesson, we practised moving into space to get away from someone marking us. There were lots of great interceptions by the markers and some groups did manage to pass into space. We tried out our skills in small team games. Look at us spacing out so that our teams have a better chance of finding the goal!

In number today we were looking at number patterns and thinking of all the clues to help us work out the missing numbers.

Today we also practised forming and sizing lower case letters correctly. This is a skill which we need to master BEFORE we can start to join letters, so we need to work hard on this skill!

Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe if you are going anywhere near bonfires or fireworks.

mercredi le premier novembre

Today we were using our Rex and Dood skills that find and select the information to answer comprehension questions- we realised that we can find questions easier to answer when we use our reading book!!

In French we were learning to pronounce some Halloween words and revised our French colour words to make une sorcière appear.

We used the number generators to find numbers more than/less than using the place columns to help us calculate the answer.

Number

We have been learning about finding the nearest 10 and nearest 100.   Please try to find 10 numbers around you ( telephone number, car registration, house number, etc) and note them down in your homework jotter.  Beside them write the nearest ten and nearest hundred.  If you really want to challenge yourself, try the nearest thousand too!!

Remember our strategy :  circle the ten if you’re looking for nearest ten, circle the hundred digit if you’re looking for nearest hundred.  Then underline the digit to the right. Then say our rule:

1,2,3 and 4 go down to the one before.

5,6,7,8, and 9 go up to the next in line.

Take a look at some photos:

Look at the school blog to see photos of other activities!

Have a great week everyone and take care.
