vendredi le sept septembre

Here, we got an opportunity to add the detail to our class tree.

We were practising number bonds to 10 and 20 in a game. It was fun and we had to think carefully about about the odd and even numbers.

We were listening to different pieces of music and letting our pencils show how the music made us feel.

During our number lesson about place value, we were challenging one another to put the random numbers in order, smallest to biggest,

We are organising our library, finding fiction and non-fiction titles which will be suitable for our reading corner.

Today we were practising an over arm throw and lots of us thought that the action felt a bit weird at first. Look at the way that legs are being used to help the thrower achieve greater power.

vendredi le troisieme septembre

This morning we were learning how to extract the homey from the frames. First of all the caps have to be carefully scraped off the honey. Next Mr McMullan put the frames into the extractor. The frames were spun slowly so that the honey came out by centrifugal force. Once the frames had been turned over and spun again, Mr  McMullan filtered the honey.  It was really interesting!

In our Big Reading lesson, we worked with a partner to find words including the ea phoneme. We learned that these letters can sound like E as in dream, e as in thread and A as in break!! We were practising the skill of text marking to help us retrieve information.

During our lesson using a plastic drum we explored what would happen to the sound if we had the plastic tight and then what the sound would be like if the plastic was loose. When the plastic was tight we got a higher clearer sound and when it was loose we had a low dull sound. The pitch indicates how high or low a sound is.

jeudi le trente août

This afternoon we were experimenting with the transmission of sound. We have learnt that sound is caused by vibrations moving the  materials around it.

When we tried out our string telephone experiment, there were some variables (things that could be changed) which affected how clearly we could hear.

We learnt about Alexander Graham Bell inventing the telephone in 1876. Ask me what the urgent first words were that were spoken over the telephone. Hopefully everyone can remember, but here is the beginning of the message. “Mr Watson! ………………….! Mr Bell had just spilt battery acid on his trousers!

We had fun today using the number generators to make numbers. We had to listen carefully to the number to think about how many digits/ how many places, which digit had to go into which column and was 0 neede to hold a place!

In ICT we all managed to access our Activelearn and Sumdog accounts, so hopefully everyone remembers how to type their name and woodlands( no capital letters and no spaces).

mardi le vingt-huit août

Continuing our work on ball skills we were thinking about the best type of throw and the power needed to throw and catch around the circle successfully. We tried a bean bag too, to explore how we have to adjust our throwing and catching skills when using different equipment.

Please could everyone try to acces their Activelearn and Sumdog accounts. Thanks.

In French we were revising the names for some pets and then matching the correct name to the correct animal.

If possible, please could everyone check that they can get onto their Activelearn account. The first 4 letters of your first and last names put together without a space, then  woodlands and finally, 6kwa.

For your Sumdog account, again, the first 4 letters of your first and last names ( if your last name only has 3 letters, then use those), then woodlands and finally, woodlands2017.

mercredi le vingt deux août

We have been very busy this week. We have written “I am” poems which have been made into a book so that we can learn about one another.

In the photo above we were greeting our partners in French and asking how they were.

Here we are sitting around the campfire and adding parts to a story.

This is P4 on the daily mile, getting some exercise and having a chance to “pick up the pace” if they wanted to.

vendredi le dix-sept août

In PE we learned a new warm up game called Fish, Chips and Peas which we all liked. Then we demonstrated our great throwing and catching skills when we played team games. We are revising what we know about numbers and place value and have been putting 1, 2 and 3 digit numbers in order!

This afternoon we made our own gateways ready for display. There were a few tricky moments when the sticks moved, but everyone successfully made their own gate.

Don’t they look good?

Have a great weekend, everyone!
