There is still time to bring in your slip and money for the Christmas Cinema on Thursday after school. Everyone has a slip for ordering their Christmas Lunch and money for this should be in school for Friday.

Preparations are under way for the Nativity and we would like P4 pupils who are not part of the cast to bring in the following :

blue jeans and soft indoor shoes (sand shoes or similar)

School will provide the T-shirts and any accessories.

Please bring the clothes in a labelled plastic bag by the end of the week. Many thanks for your help with the costumes.

Festive Fun Homework

Homework from 3/12/18

Language

Spelling words:

Revise the words on your spelling wall and make sure that you can confidently use all spelling patterns and the correct phonic sounds e.g. thought NOT fort!

Practise spelling using different activities, e.g. rainbow writing, spelling backwards, making chains, etc.

 Reading – ongoing

Enjoy reading any texts! Primary Times is a great way of starting to read reports and any Christmas/winter stories are an excellent way of keeping up your reading skills over the holidays.

You have been given a First Minister’s Reading Challenge recording book, so that you can make comments about any books that you read at home. Please look after it and remember that I am keen to see how you are getting on and read any reviews that you have written.

 Number

We have been investigating fact family addition and subtraction related facts this week.

These sites have some different games at different levels of confidence for you to try out:

 Interdisciplinary Learning

Learn the words for our Nativity song so that you are confident and can sing out well.

Festive Fun Four

Enjoy learning in different ways over the festive period.

vendredi le trente novembre

We had great fun taking part in the “Military Fitness” activities. There were lots of skills to practise as well as finding our way safely through the inflatable.

As it is Saint Andrew’s Day, we have been learning a little about his life and how he became the Patron Saint of Scotland. Our learning involved sequencing and learning how to look carefully at dates when we are creating a timeline.

jeudi le vingt-neuf novembre

Today we tried a new way of thinking about our learning, called a Thinking Routine and the one that we tried was called CSI. This stands for Colour, Symbol and Image. We finished our class novel so we used the CSI to think about some of the main themes and our thoughts about the story.

Please remember that we have a “Military Fitness” session tomorrow, so joggies, T shirts / PE kits and indoor shoes will be needed. It is also St Andrew’s Day so there will be a special lunch and if you want to wear tartan, then please do.

mercredi le vingt-huit novembre

Today for reading some of our group members joined to read a play together. It is nice to hear one another and be able to listen for fluency, how people are using their reading strategies and noticing the punctuation which helps us to put expression into our voices.

Mrs Keith was working with us today. She read a story and then we were thinking of our own ideas to create a page in the same way. We had to think of a character- a new friend for Claire, and then we could think of a very imaginative reason why Claire had hurt her knee. We came up with some really cool ideas!

Here is a photo of another magnetic game. As you can see we have been very inventive in linking different parts of our learning.

Finally, please could all of this term’s homework be given to me either tomorrow or Friday. Any books borrowed from the library should also be returned this week. Thank you.

vendredi le vingt-trois novembre

This afternoon we were putting the finishing touches to our magnetic game designs and then had fun using the rules of different groups to then try to play their game! I wonder whether we have any games designers of the future in Primary 4 right now?

Just to show you a flavour of how the hall looks in preparation for the Christmas Fayre tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning between 10 and 12.  If you can’t make it, see you next week.

jeudi le vingt-deux novembre

What an enterprising  group of children. Everyone has worked well and pulled together as a team to produce these great items for the Christmas Fayre.

Don’t forget your Pets! We have treats for both cats and dogs.

We also have a festive candle in a choice of two colours and fragrances.

Well done, Primary 4, you all worked well and helped each other out- that is the sign of teamwork!

Homework and ongoing learning

Homework

More children have been showing me their reading homework activities.  8 children have just received new Reading Activity sheets and if you need any resources, then please ask.

You have your weekly spelling wall rows to practise at home and after this week, a new assessment will be made of your spelling skills.

There are new Activelearn and Sumdog challenges allocated for everyone.

It is our Enterprise week and we will be preparing for the Christmas Fayre whilst learning about aspects of being enterprising.

The Minecraft games are also very good for learning about how to run businesses, make investments, make profits, look after staff, budget, etc. So if you can access Minecraft, then have a go at being an entrepreneur this week and let me know how you get on.
