jeudi le vingt-deux août

In our literacy lesson we were thinking about what the word “Literacy” means to us. These are the ideas that we thought about and we will build onto this mindmap as the year progresses.

Here we are taking part in the Daily Mile.

In P. E. we were learning some tactics to play  Dodgeball effectively and everyone could state a skill that they had developed during the lesson.

As you can see, the forest animals have put up a sign telling us to keep out of the corner and there is even a sign saying Forbidden Forest! What will happen next? We will wait until next week to find out!

In our Place Value learning, we have been trying to find out mystery numbers using as few questions as possible. Using the words: digit, odd, even, more, less helps to identify the number.

Please could everyone try to get onto their Activelearn account.

It should be the first 4 letters from the first and last name, woodlands, 6kwa. There are no capitals or spaces.

Finally, on p10 of the Primary Times which was given to everyone today, there is information about the Largs Viking Festival. We are going to be learning about the Vikings this term, so a trip to Largs, to visit the festival and visit Vikingar would be a great experience for the children!

This afternoon we created our woodland themed “ Gateways to Learning”. Then we’ll follow the woodland path to some excellent learning adventures!

Earlier today we were practising our spelling using the phonemes and spelling patterns that we already know. In our number work, we were thinking about questions we can use to find a mystery number- why not try this out at home?

Welcome back to school and thanks for a great first day in P4/5; I am sure that we will have a fantastic year! Just a reminder that our P.E. days are Wednesday and Friday , so please bring in your gym kits and indoor shoes ready to develop your skills in gym. Please could you make sure that coats, cardigans and jumpers have names in them to help if they are left outside or in other areas of the school. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Here is a flavour of our school show performance, these photos are from Tuesday night, so I hope to have even more children on the stage tonight. Many thanks to those who are coming in for the evening performances, we really appreciate it.

Today in French we were having a revision of some basic conversational vocabulary and worked in pairs or a small group to practise.

Today in art we were looking at another painting by Claude Monet, this time his “Poppies” painting from 1873. We could choose which medium to use, either watercolour or poster paint. Here are two paintings at the beginning of the process.

Thank you to those who have brought in their Show clothes and please could everyone else bring them in tomorrow. Thank you.

mardi l’onze juin

Please could everyone bring their own water bottle filled with fresh water and this should last the day unless it is exceptionally warm.

A reminder that show clothes should be brought in as soon as possible because we have a dress rehearsal later on this week. Please put the clothes into a named bag: blue jeans, dungarees or leggings, glittery hair bows and accessories, glittery or shiny soft shoes, sand shoes or school shoes. Thank you.

Primary 4 has been very busy recently.

We were learning about pitch with  Clare in Kodaly music.

In Science we have been learning how to classify different living things and checked the facts for different animal groups to help us create questions for animal flow charts.

Here we were writing our recounts of Sports Day, applying the skills that we have been practising through the year.

Once we had finished writing, we carried out our self and peer assessments.

In art we learnt some facts about the French painter Claude Monet and used finger painting to create an Impressionist style picture.

Here are 2 finished copies of the lilies under the bridge in the garden at Giverny.

Congratulations to one of our pupils who won 2 medals at a gymnastics competition at the weekend. Well done!

This afternoon we were invited to an Art Exhibition held by Primary  7. It was great fun and we learnt about different styles of art.
