We were learning how to use place value skills to order important periods of time into our timelines, to show when the Vikings were active in Scotland.
We were using Top Marks games to help us practise skills in Place Value.
Well done to one of our classmates who raised money for Junior Diabetes.
We were using post it’s to help us order large numbers where several digits needed to be looked at.
Working in pairs or trios, to work out where to add in speech marks.
To help us think about what is being said, we used speech bubbles which show exactly what a character is saying.
Here are a few of the skills that we’ve been learning and developing this week.
We were learning about who the Vikings were and where they came from. So to demonstrate, we used our mapping skills to show the Viking routes from Scandinavia to Britain.
During our Big Reading lesson, we worked in trios to identify and text mark any description of the Grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine. We then created our own character descriptions.
Today we were writing diary extracts as though we were Grandma as a girl. Here we are peer assessing to help our friends edit and improve their writing.
The third part of our Forest – themed artwork. Today we used sponges to print an impressionist canopy of leaves .
Learning about place value is fun when you can put your own number into the correct place in a number line. We all thought of numbers up to one hundred at first, then extended our numbers into the thousands.
Well done, everyone!!
We had a great time listening to presentations and having a quick look at the posters, books and PowerPoints, then asking some questions. Tomorrow, there will be the chance to look around at the special presentations in more detail. Remember to get your house and dojo points too!
Homework – Term 1
Today the class were introduced to the homework grid for this term.
A spelling activity should be completed each week, along with one of the tasks from the grid. Start to collect junk to help you make a Viking model in a few weeks’ time. I suggest that you start with the Place Value sheet or making a Place Value game, the new front cover sheet, or the French activity.
The Sumdog login details are as they always have been and everyone can access the system in school.
The passwords for Activelearn are very similar- first 4 letters of first and last names with no capital letters or spaces, woodlands and 6kwa. There is a challenge on Sumdog and activities have been allocated on Activelearn.

Here is some information about the Viking Festival in Largs and Vikingar.
The weather looks a little more promising for the weekend, so if possible, why not take a trip over to Largs?

https://largsvikingfestival.org/Â Â Â Â – please look at the events calendar, especially for Saturday evening.
If anyone needs anything to help you complete the homework, please ask.
Just a quick reminder to bring in your special homework all about yourself. We will have a presentation at some point tomorrow and remember that there will be house points/ class dojos available!
In art we created a watercolour wash background for our forest painting.
Today we wrote an acrostic poem about our Forbidden Forest and then we visualised what we had written.
Here, we started to show the perspective in our painting by making the tree trunks in the background smaller, and the ones at the front bigger with more detail.
We were thinking about what we already know about Vikings and making an estimate of which centuries they were living in. Next we will think about what we want to know and find out about the Vikings.
Please don’t forget to give an adult the large envelope you were given and start to think of ideas for the special homework task. Perhaps you could work with brothers and sisters to create a family presentation!
Tomorrow, for PE a coach will be teaching you basketball skills, so please have your full kit with you so that you can participate appropriately.
Here is a flavour of our Fitness/Circuit Training lesson in P.E. We will be increasing our fitness levels and developing our skills by practising a variety of activities during the term. If everyone could remember that P.E. is on Wednesday and Friday and bring in their full kit including indoor shoes, that would be great.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
