mercredi le treize novembre

Today we had the opportunity to plant some hazel tree saplings. As you can see, the ground was still quite frosty so we had to make a T shape in the ground and then lift the two sections of earth before slotting in the sapling roots. Then we could stamp down the earth around the young tree to give it a chance to stay upright.

After that we learnt about a search engine called Ecosia. There is information about it on the school’s Eco blog, and we are trying to use it at school and at home,  as part of the site’s policy is to plant trees. Please pass on the information to others as this is a really great and easy idea for us all to be able to do our bit for the environment.

mardi le douze novembre

Just a reminder that you need to have strong outdoor shoes ( wellies) and warm jackets with you tomorrow as we will be helping to plant new saplings after registration.

For Remembrance Day we created art using different skills and media. First of all we had to create a stencil- which was fiddly, then used sponge printing to create the poppy effect. Finally, we added chalk strokes to create the grass.

mardi le cinq novembre

Today we were thinking about why certain words are effective and why they affect us in different ways. First of all we looked at four short Halloween poems and highlighted words that we thought were effective. Then we came together in groups and used the Thinking routine of Chalk Talk to add our ideas about different words and links that we can make. There was a lot of discussion and exploration of different themes and ideas.

In ICT some pupils chose to create a wordsearch with Bonfire and Firework onomatopoeic words and other created PowerPoints to explain how to stay safe on Bonfire Night.

Homework reminder

Homework – Term 1

As we are nearing the end of the term, here is a reminder of what is expected for homework.

Write out spelling words in your jotter as a practice for your weekly check. It would be a good idea to write sentences, so that you practise writing sentences correctly, including the correct punctuation and using the correct meaning of the focus words.  Alternatively, a  spelling activity from the ideas sheet should be completed each week.

You now have information about the Viking model and presentation for two weeks time and any tasks from the grid which haven’t been completed should be attempted before the end of November.

The Sumdog login details are as they always have been and everyone can access the system in school.

The passwords for Activelearn are very similar- first 4 letters of first and last names with no capital letters or spaces, woodlands and 6kwa. There is a challenge on Sumdog and activities have been allocated on Activelearn.

If you are having problems getting onto these sites, please check for updates on your devices .

Here are some sites with facts about Vikings to help with our on-going topic.

mardi le vingt-neuf octobre

Today we were introduced to some French Halloween 🎃 words. In order to become more familiar with them, we created our own word search and then played the puzzle too. It might be a good idea to try the site for practising your own homework words. The site is Wordsearch.com/puzzle – have fun!

Remember to get the Viking Presentation information out of your bag!!

lundi le vingt- huit octobre

There was another notice from our forest friends last week. They invited us to go into the forest.

We sat around the campfire and visualised being in a real forest. We used our senses to describe a setting in an atmospheric way.

Today we all used the markers in the corridor to move about before sitting and listening in class for an extended period of time.

mercredi le vingt-trois octobre

Today we were learning about Tint and Shade in colour theory. When you add white to a base colour this provides the tint and makes lighter colours, but you add black to the base colour to create shade. Using this technique we have created a background which has already given us some inspiration for atmospheric settings in writing.

mardi le vingt-deux octobre

We are trying different strategies to help us develop skill skills in summarising. Today we used the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk to highlight important facts in our trios, then went into section groups depending on whether we were the beginning, middle or end of the story. Finally we retold the story in our own words to the class. We reflected on what went well and what would be even better if……. and are writing hints to help one another summarise effectively.
