This morning we made oatcakes in class. Although Vikings would have ground the oats using a quern and cooked them over a fire, we had our oats ground in a food processor and cooked in an electric oven. We did shape them by hand and enjoyed tasting them with strawberry jam. Delicious!! Check out the photos to follow our recipe and make them at home. Our recipe makes 8 oatcakes. This afternoon we used clay to make replica Thor’s Hammers.
We started our reading challenge booklet and will keep them in school. Pupils can choose a book from home to bring in as a personal reader or choose one from the class library. Check out the website www.readingchallenge.scot to get ideas and recommendations on books to read.
We started on the next chapter in our reading books. We listened to each other read and completed peer assessments. We will be starting the First Minister’s Reading Challenge soon and will choose books from the class library or from home. You’ll hear all about this later.
We had more fun with grid references, finding and describing positions on a grid. In the afternoon we had a visitor and also visited the book fair.
We’re looking forward to seeing parents on Thursday and showing them the work we have been doing in our jotters and around the walls.
This morning we were creating repeating patterns in maths class. We made patterns with shapes, colours, planets, letters, flags, Pokemon and vehicles. Why not make some patterns at home and challenge your family to repeat them?
We also did reading comprehension this morning.
This afternoon we did art activities. We were making Viking weapons. We’ve still got to add the details but they are looking good!
We’ve been having fun investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We’ve been naming, recognising and sorting shapes as well as discussing their properties – faces, vertices and edges.
This morning we were investigating the faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes. We also enjoyed a reading session where we read to our partner and then peer assessed how good their fluency, expression and accuracy was.
This afternoon we found out about Viking clothes and designed Viking memorial stones using runes.
Later on we will be making Viking weapon models. Please bring in any recycling from home that we could use e.g.
This afternoon we were recording and sharing what we have learned about Viking long houses so far. We drew pictures which showed the main features of long houses and labelled them. Please ask us about us about them when we get home! Some pupils made fabulous models of Viking longships.
P4 had a busy day today. We were working on comprehension during reading time and sorting and naming 2Dshapes during maths. We were very interested in learning about the main features of Viking long houses and using what we learned to create new dance moves for our Viking dance.
