P5/6 Homework Week Beginning 22nd February

In Maths we will be looking at angles. For this homework your child will need a protractor or can borrow one from the school

Measuring Up – Ask your child to find a variety of objects in his/her room, which have clear angles. He/she should then estimate the size before measuring the angle carefully with a protractor. He/she should then bring one of the objects, and the measurements, into class to show the class teacher.

Angle Hunt – Ask your child to have a look around the house and create a list all of the places they find angles. For extra challenge, he/she could note next to each angle whether it is acute, right, obtuse, straight or reflex. He/she should then bring their list to class to share with his/her teacher and classmates.

Challenge a Friend – Ask your child to use his/her knowledge of angles to design, write and illustrate a complex word problem for a friend, which he/she should bring in to school to give to a friend. For extra challenge, the problem could link to the current class topic.

Literacy- Apostrophe to Show Ownership

In literacy, some of us have learning about using the apostrophe for ownership and some of us are consolidating our use of the possessive apostrophe.  We found it easy to add in the apostrophe if the noun was singular but it was a little bit trickier when the noun was plural, especially an irregular plural like children.  We learned a good strategy if you’re not sure about to put the possessive apostrophe.

Read All About It…

This morning we started to look at the features of a newspaper.  Then we had to pick an article from a newspaper and use post-it’s to label the different features.  Next we completed a sheet with a partner that asked us to identify: the headline, by-line, introduction, body, quotes, photographs and captions.image

Activities

After our reading and learning logs, we split into 3 group for activities. We had Valentine’s Crafts, Cool Maths Games (Billy the Bug) and K’nex.  Next month, there is going to be a K’nex Challenge for P6 in Greenfaulds High School.
