RME- The Parable of the Good Samaritan.

This afternoon we learned more about parables.  We looked at the story of the Good Samaritan then explored it through drama.  We worked in groups of 6.  Our success criteria was:

  • use loud, clear voices,
  • follow the story,
  • think about actions and facial expressions
  • face the audience
  • consider how to demonstrate your character’s emotions.

P5/6 Homework for W/B 1st May. Design the honey label competition

Design the honey label competition

Success Criteria:
• I can make my label, bright, colourful and clear.
• I can include a name for our farm, name for the honey, date it was made and nutritional information.
• I can design a logo for the honey and include a motto.
There will be a winner from each house, plus an overall winner, which will be used for our actual honey jars in the summer.

The four winners will get 1,000, 750, 500 and 250 respectively. The overall winner will get 2000 house points.

Designs will be judged on the success criteria.

The children’s entries need to have their name, class and house on it.
They can use this template or design their own – their choice.
If children want to design them on a computer and print them out, that’s fine.  If required,   templates are available form Mrs Pollock.

Outdoor Learning Over at The Luggie

This morning we all headed over to The Luggie,  our first visit since Spring began.  We noticed a big difference in the vegetation.  Miss Murray led our lesson on symmetry. With a partner, we had to create a symmetrical pattern, with 1 or 2 lines of symmetry,  using material we found around the Luggie. Then we had to continue a pattern that another pair had created.

Google Expedition Visit

This morning we took part in Google Expeditions using the new app. Mrs Pollock led our expedition about volcanoes.  It was totally awesome and we built on the work we learned during our topic on Extreme Earth.    We thought it was a fun way to learn and give the experience 10/10.

P5/6 Homework Week Beginning 24th April

In Maths we are learning more about symmetry. 

Shape environment changes:  Ask children to look at patterns, which involve rotation or reflection at home or during their journey to school. Examples might include designs on crockery, designs on fences and brickwork on buildings. They record and describe the patterns.

Wallpaper design:  Ask children to create a design for wallpaper, which involves shapes, which have been rotated or reflected. Back in class they compare and discuss their designs

Symmetry in nature:  Ask children to look at the living world around them to find examples of symmetry in plants and animals.  They could then photograph or sketch their findings to bring back into school to show to their classmates.

Crest Design:  Ask children to design and draw a symmetrical crest for their class base at school.  Children could then bring their completed designs into school for display outside the class base.

Literacy

AN ADVERB IS A WORD THAT GIVES MORE MEANING TO A VERB. MANY ADVERBS TELL US HOW SOMETHING HAPPENED. MANY ADVERBS END IN THE LETTERS -LY.

Task one. Look at this list of adverbs.

WWII- Propaganda

Being an historian is like being a detective. Historical sources are the clues to fitting a story together.

Use a dictionary to find the word ‘propaganda’. What does it tell you and why do you think these posters were used during World War 2?

Using the internet search for different propaganda posters and draw a table in your homework jotter like the one below. Look at each poster in turn and complete the table with the information like the example below.

Creative Dance

This morning  we continued to rehearse our dances to the song “Price Tag,” by Jesse J.  We then performed our dances to the other groups and received feedback that identified what was good about our dance and one thing our group could do to improve our dance.

Propaganda

This morning we discovered what propaganda is and why it was important during WWII.  We also identified the features of propaganda using the internet to search for different examples of propaganda.  This afternoon we then created then painted our own propaganda posters for WWII.

 

Creative Dance

This morning we learned a few new dance moves to the song Price Tag by Jessie J.  We then worked in groups of 5 to come up with our own groovy moves.  It was as  important to listen to each other and work as a team, as it was to actually perform our dances.  We haven’t finished our dances yet but we’ve made a very good start.
