Tales from The Luggie

Homework W/B 13th November

Literacy

This week for spelling, we have been looking at the homophones:

they’re, there and their.

Remember homophones sound the same but look different because they are spelt different.

We are going to investigate this set of homophones: their there they’re

Write five sentences containing each word. Their is a possessive, it means ‘belonging to them’. For example: Their chairs were in the hall. 1………………………………………………………………………………………………………

2………………………………………………………………………………………………………

3……………………………………………………………………………………………………… 4………………………………………………………………………………………………………

5………………………………………………………………………………………………………

There tells you where something is. It is used with is, are, was, and were, for example: There is a dog in the classroom.

1………………………………………………………………………………………………………

2………………………………………………………………………………………………………

3………………………………………………………………………………………………………

4………………………………………………………………………………………………………

5………………………………………………………………………………………………………

They’re always means they are. For example: They’re going on a trip today.

1………………………………………………………………………………………………………

2………………………………………………………………………………………………………

3………………………………………………………………………………………………………

4………………………………………………………………………………………………………

5………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Can you make a list of other homophones you know?

Maths

I can recall my number bonds quickly and accurately and can use multiples of 10 and 100 to create new facts

Write a guide

Ask children to write a short guide to help younger children to understand how to find totals and differences of multiples of 10 and 100 using facts already known,

e.g. how to work out 150 – 80, 700 + 1600 or 2500 –1800.

Children in Need:

As children in Need is on Friday here is a link to some official Children in Need resources.

Visit to P6 by Community Police Officers

This morning, as part of our Health and Wellbeing topic on Reacting to Peer Pressure, Gregor and Gary our local Community Police came to speak to P6.  We found out the different names for drugs and discussed the classifications of drugs.  We also discussed what can happen if your friends take drugs and become involved with the police.  We were surprised to learn that if someone gets a police record because of drugs they won’t be able to do certain jobs.

We had many volunteers who wanted to see if the were flexible enough to escape from the handcuffs.

Outdoor Learning at the Luggie

This afternoon, after been chased by an excited boxer dog, we went down to The Luggie.  We revisited some of the names of the trees and wildlife then found out about how the river flows and how the debris travels long the river.  We also investigated why one part of a river is deeper than another.  Finally, we had to create 3, 4 or 5 digit number a then round them to them to the nearest 10 and 100.
