Well done to all of the children who managed to take part in today’s Sumdog Maths competition. You have all worked very hard and tried your very best. The leader board was very close but we have a winner.
The winner of our maths competition is…Harris Devine.
Well done Harris! You have been crowned our MATHS CHAMPION this week!
Here are the answers to yesterday’s maths questions.
6,470,920-2,847,936 = 3,622,984
12,825,087-8,596,729 = 4,228,358
26,444,561-8,823,000 = 17,621,561
36,570,818+11,630,999 =48,201,817
£96,832,790-£12,670,889 = £84,161,901
20,000,000+12,530,547 =32,530,547
£11,068,086-£6,500,990 = £4,567,096
The smallest 8-digit whole number is 10,000,000 and the greatest 7-digit whole number is 9,999,999. The difference between them is 1.
$357,115,007-$257,698,183 = $99,416,824
1,000,000÷20,000 = 50 (the same as 100÷2), 50x£25 = £1,250

Remember, decimals make no difference to how you add, subtract, multiply or divide you only have to remember to keep the decimal points above one another, in a straight line.
This is not how we would write out sums to find the answer so don’t write them this way in your jotter. Use place value, carrying and decomposition (borrowing) to find your answers.
I’ll post the answers to these tomorrow or you can send me your answers at:

For spelling this week I want to look at another spelling rule.
The sound ‘sh’ represented by ‘ci’.
Some words use ‘ti’ to make ‘sh’. Words like station, nation or education.
When a longer word is formed from a root word, however, the ‘sh’ sound is represented by ‘ci’.
As we know things just now are very different from what we are used to. By now our new Primary 1 children would have been in to visit the school but, like you, they have not been able to come in for their visits. We are thinking that it would be a lovely idea for you to say a little prayer for them. In order to make them feel welcome to our school in August, I would like you to choose the word for your stage below, write/colour it on a sheet of paper, hold it up and ask an adult to take a picture of you holding your word with a big smile and if it is possible you could wear your uniform. Please email your picture to gw09mcintoshdavid3@glow.sch.uk . We will use these to make our Primary 1’s feel very welcome to our school.
We we’re talking yesterday about how important it is to look after our bodies. Drinking plenty especially during exercise and warm weather to keep us hydrated. Our bodies are amazing things.
Here is a little activity to keep you busy and at the same time learn about all of the parts that make up ‘US’!!
Have you got a roll of wallpaper lying around or if you have been receiving lots of packages (did you know all our posties are busier than their busiest time of the year, Christmas!) during lockdown and have cardboard boxes around I want you to lie them flat on the ground and get someone in your house to draw round you. (The weather’s not looking that good today but should be dry so even do this task outside)
Here we have our template!! Can you label and identify as many parts of the human body, all the organs? See if you can have a good guess at where they are located. Our heart Should be easy, what about our lungs, liver etc. Try to see how many you can find. You could even put your artistic talents to good use and draw them in.
Remember to email your marvellous pictures to gw09mcintoshdavid3@glow.sch.uk or upload it onto Twitter with an adult’s permission.
Hello everyone, you have me today – Mrs Graham. Mrs Boyce says hi but she is a busy bee this week with other school work so I am doing the blog for the rest of the week.
Morning prayer and an Our Father
Literacy
Continue to use your spelling strategies to revise your spelling words this week. Tomorrow, I will ask an adult to test you on your words from this week and I may add in a few sneaky ones from weeks gone by.
During this unusual time, we notice many acts of kindness which are happening around us. Maybe it is someone delivering food to those who can not get out or maybe it’s sending a card or letter through the post to cheer someone up. My friend delivered a bag of goodies on my doorstep one day to cheer me up, it really did. It felt wonderful to know that I have such a caring friend. Have you noticed anything like that? Or maybe you saw something on the news. If you could thank anyone just now, who would it be and why? Write a short letter of thanks to someone. To help you get started, here are a few more examples:
Father Campbell saying mass via live link every day to ensure we can all experience mass and prayer when we can
Your teachers uploading work every day to keep you as up to date as possible with your lessons
Your mum or dad for being your teacher during this time away from school
Your grandparents for sending cards or treats
Your friends/cousins for video chatting or sending you cards
Numeracy
Tomorrow there will be a Sumdog competition for all North Lanarkshire Schools therefore, today make sure you work on your times tables and prepare for tomorrow. Why not have a go at the following games:

Literacy
Time for some fabulous Literacy Work! Have a look and enjoy!
The first is an Acrostic poem by Hannah. Well done!
Now for another wonderful poem, this time by Euan – well done!
Now for the third acrostic poem of the day and this time it’s Hollie’s poem. Fantastic!
Well done, everyone and thank you for sharing your work with all of us!
This week you have been creating sets of cards:
Set 1: Six character cards with associated colours and accessories. You had pictures on each and a brief description
Set 2: Nine room cards with pictures and a brief description of each room
Set 3: Six accessory cards with the picture and the name of the accessory on each.
You were also asked to research the game of Cluedo including the layout of the board and the rules.
Thursday’s Task
Your task is to create a board game of your own. You can use Cluedo as an inspiration or you can be totally original.
The game must be for between three and six players.
All of your cards should be used.
Once you have designed your game you should make a set of easy-to-follow instructions so that others in your class can try it.
The instructions should:
List the contents of the ‘box’
The aim of the game (what you have to do to win)
A list of what each player needs in order to play
Rules of play – what you are allowed/not allowed to do
A rule for deciding who plays first (the youngest child; roll dice – lowest number etc.)
Anything else which a player would need to know in order to play YOUR game
WARNING: You do not have to complete this whole task today…it might take a few designs and rule changes before you get it just right!
Please send pictures of your game to:

Mental Challenge: Multiplication
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
Select: Level 3 or Level 4 or Level 5
This week the mental maths challenges have all been linked to multiplication.
Select three tables and set yourself a challenge. Aim for 3 or 5 second intervals. However, if you need more thinking time, that’s fine. Better to think it through correctly than rush and make an error!
Now select two challenges from the mixed section.
Weight
We have been looking at weight this week – specifically at grams and kilograms.
Try these:
monkey snake tarantula tiger elephant
List these zoo animals in order beginning with the one you think weighs most.
Change from kilograms to grams.
a) 8kg b) 12kg c) 14 1/2 kg d) 31kg e) 5kg 800g f) 21kg 6g
Change these weights to kilograms OR to kilograms and grams.
a) 7000g b) 17 000g c) 40 000g d) 6800g e) 8060g f) 10 001g
Jenny and Mandy weigh themselves on some bathroom scales.
Jenny weighs 49 and a half kilograms. Mandy weighs 50kg 200g.
How much more does Mandy weigh?
A box of shopping arrives at Mrs Brown’s house.
It includes 4 tins of soup, 3 jars of pickles and 5 pot noodles.
If a tin of soup weighs 400g, a jar of pickles, 300g, a pot noodle 70g and the box itself weighs 200g what is the total weight of the box and its contents?
Answers will be posted at 3.00pm today.

Are you up and ready for another fun-filled day of learning?
We will begin our day as always, with our morning prayer.
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together in school. St. Barbara, pray for us.
Yesterday you explored what you could do in one minute. How did you get on with your one minute challenges? Did you manage to beat your partner?
The Hour
Lets think…
What can you do in one hour?
An hour is quite a long time but is tricky to estimate.
Today Sabrina is going to show you how one hour can be measured on a clock, using the example of her football training from five o’clock to six o’clock.
You have been learning all about the analogue clock.
Today I am going to introduce you to the digital clock.
We’re surrounded by digital clocks everywhere these days on mobiles, computers, TVs and alarm clocks.
Digital clocks use numbers to tell the time, instead of hands. It is usually battery or electricity powered.
Digital clocks are often smaller than analogue clocks as the numbers are easier to read.
Jack Hartmann wants to tell you more about the digital clock.
Digital Clock Hunt
Today I would like you to go on a hunt around your house to see if you can spot any digital clocks.
You could take photographs of these and send me pictures of some of the clocks that you found on your clock hunt.
A parent in our class has very kindly emailed me a picture of this time poster that she bought and has been using with her child to help them learn about Time. She has found it very useful and kindly wanted to share this picture with you, to see if it would help any other parents.

Literacy
Today I would like to to try this little game with a partner at home. Roll the dice to read the words in the row. If you do not have a dice you can challenge your partner to a speed read. Time how fast you can read the “oo” words vertically and diagonally. Good luck, I hope you win!!
The link below is a story about “oo”, this is your reading challenge for today. Well done to Charlie, Eryn, Rebecca and Steven for your super reading. You are doing so well on Scholastic and I have assigned you another book to read over the next few days if you can. I’d love to hear some more of you recording your reading for me to hear.
Practise your 3 new common words play, no, look in a fun way.
Copy and complete:
1. I like to ________ with my friends.
2. I always _________ both ways before I cross the road.

Literacy
Today is our taught writing day. We are going to continue our work on narrative writing.
I would like you to write an imaginative story. Please watch the short video below to remind you what that is.
Today you are going to be deciding what your story is about. The only rule is that it must be imaginative and based on one of the pictures below.
Below you will see 3 pictures. I would like you to choose one of the pictures and that will give you the setting for your story.
Now you have chosen your setting and you are ready to plan your story. Please use the planning sheet below. Remember your story must have a beginning, a middle and an end.
You can choose any table to work on. Can you beat my highest score of 25?
Send me your score so we can assign a new class champion.
Today we are going to bring together all of the multiplication strategies we have learned. I would like you to choose one multiplication problem e.g. 3 x 5
Red – choose from the 2, 5 or 10 times tables.
Amber – choose from the 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables.
Green – choose from the 3 or the 4 times tables.
Please use a ruler and lay out your page like the example below.
Now please show the problem you chose earlier in a variety of ways. We did this is class before. Have a look at the example to help you.
Send me a picture of your work to gw17mcmullenkenedi@glow.sch.uk
To finish please practice your tables out loud to someone at home.
