If you have pictures and have not yet tweeted them or sent them over, feel free to do so today. I hope you had fun and enjoyed doing something a little bit different.

Today I would like you to start the day with our morning prayer and then say a Hail Mary to continue honouring Our Lady during the month of May. Can you say the Hail Mary in Spanish?

Wednesday 27th May- This Is Our Faith

When Jesus needed to feel very close to his Father, what did he do? – He would pray.  Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, before he was betrayed by Judas.  He prayed before he raised Lazarus from the dead and Jesus prayed during the Last Supper, before he broke the bread.  Like us Jesus needed to share his worries and problems with his heavenly Father; he knew that he was never alone.  Just as we are never alone.  God is always with us.

When we pray we are having a conversation with God.  When we talk to God, he listens.  We don’t have to have special times for saying prayers.  Often we say them at bedtime but we can talk to God at any time.  Do you ever feel unsure about what to say to God?  Don’t worry as God our Father likes to hear about everything we have to tell him and he is always ready to listen.

The apostles knew how important it was to pray to God but like us they often felt uncertain about how to pray.  One day they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.  What was the prayer that Jesus taught them? – The Our Father.

Watch this short video about how Jesus taught his disciples the Our Father:

Let’s say the Our Father now.  I have copied the words to help you if you need it.

I would like you to download the picture below if you can and colour it in.  If you can’t download it why not draw a picture like this one.

Please send us a copy of your picture at gw13reidsiobhan@glow.sch.uk or Tweet us @St_BarbarasPS.

Remember to send me over any work that you would like to show off on our Primary 7 blog, I really enjoy seeing how you are all getting on with the tasks that I set you.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Primary 7- Tuesday 26th May

Good morning Primary 7,

I am so excited because today is our Virtual Sports’ Day. I hope you are all up, had a good energy providing breakfast and got your sports clothes on. The sun is shining which makes it even better! Have a look at the Virtual Sports’ Day blog to find out what you are being asked to do.

Let’s begin our day as we always do, by saying our morning prayer.

God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.

                                          St. Barbara, pray for us.

I know this is not how you imagined your final Sports’ Day at Primary School however let’s try to make the most of it and have fun! I look forward to seeing the videos and photographs of you participating in today’s races.

Have a tremendous Tuesday!

Thursday 21st May- Primary 7

Good morning Primary 7 ,

I hope you have all had a good week and have worked hard. We have a long weekend this weekend which means that you have a few days off from school work. Use that time to relax and get out in the fresh air.

Let’s join our hands and begin our day with our morning prayer.

God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.

                                          St. Barbara, pray for us.

I have had some great work sent over to me this week and I have really enjoyed reading it. Usually I get to display all of your wonderful work on the walls for everyone to see. As I am not able to put your work on the walls I am going to be posting it on our daily blogs. I would love if you could email or tweet me any work that you are proud of and that you would like to show off.

These are post cards that I received from Archie and Ava telling me what they have been up to. It was great to hear from you both as I am missing you all.

Ben wrote a great imaginative story, it was well structured and punctuated. Well done Ben, it’s great to see you are still meeting the creative writing genre targets.

Daniel has been revising his spelling rules and he has presented his work well. He has also used the BODMAS order of operations to complete his sums. Good work Daniel!

Michael has also been working really hard! He has used some amazing adjectives to make a piece of text much more interesting to read. Michael also sent me the tongue twister that he wrote, see if you can give it a go.

Well done Primary 7 for sending me all of this fabulous work, I look forward to receiving lots more.

Here are today’s Health and Wellbeing and This Is Our Faith tasks-

Ascension Thursday: 21st May 2020

Today is Ascension Thursday!

We have been thinking about loving and caring for others all week and we have tried to follow Jesus’ commandment to, ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’

You have created a Caring Wreath to show that you care and you have learned about how Jesus ascended into heaven forty days after his resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Normally on Ascension Thursday we would all be going to Mass. Although we can’t actually go to church today, Bishop Toal is celebrating Mass for all of the children of the Diocese of Motherwell at 11am.

This Mass is being streamed on Facebook so you will need an adult’s permission to watch this:

www.facebook.com/rcmotherwell

Father Campbell is also celebrating Mass on St. Barbara’s Parish website at 10am.

With an adult’s permission, please select a Mass to follow.

You might also like to watch the clip below. You can join in if you like.

Thursday 21st May 2020- Health and Wellbeing

It’s the last day before the holiday weekend and before Sports’ Day on Tuesday!!!

For some of today’s activities you need dice or you can make some (see below).

Select one or more of the following to do today:

Look out for news about Sports’ Day activities!

Keep up the great work Primary 7 and enjoy your extra few days off, you have earned them. As Tuesday is our Virtual Sports Day maybe you could get some practise in this weekend.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Primary 7- Wednesday 20th May

Hello Primary 7 ,

I hope you are all up, had breakfast and ready to start your day.

We will begin the day with our morning prayer. Before we start today’s tasks I thought it might be nice to say a decade of The Rosary to continue honouring Mary during the month of May. On a Wednesday we celebrate the ‘Glorious Mysteries’. Today we will explore the third ‘Glorious Mystery’, The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-41).

Why not try this little brain teaser to get your brain wakened up?

Here is the link for today’s learning activities-

Wednesday 20th May

Here are today’s Health and Wellbeing and This Is Our Faith tasks-

Wednesday 20th May- Health and Wellbeing

Time to waken up and put your best foot forward!

We’re getting closer to Sports’ Day – so time for a little movement. There are two video clips to get you moving and some tasks below. Enjoy!

Now for those tasks:

Play some music lasting about ten/fifteen minutes and do these:

  • Jumping Jacks/Star Jumps
  • On the Spot running
  • Plank
  • Squats
  • Add your own and have fun!

Remember to have your water bottle handy and to take a few breaks!

Wednesday 20th May- This Is Our Faith

This week we have been looking at Jesus’ commandment to:

‘Love one another as I have loved you.’

Jesus showed his love for all of us on Good Friday when he died on the cross. Tomorrow we are going to celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. On this day, forty days after his resurrection on Easter Sunday, Jesus ascended into Heaven leaving the disciples behind to carry on with his work and to be witnesses for him.  They were a little scared to be left without Jesus but they believed in him and they knew that he would not leave them alone. They were quite right of course; the Holy Spirit came to help them on the Feast of Pentecost and we’ll explore that later.

Below you will see two very different video clips about the Ascension. Please watch both of them.

Now what I would like you to do is to draw or make your own reminder of what happened on the Feast of the Ascension.

You could think about making the figures of Jesus, his disciples and the two people dressed in white – you could even create your own video clip.

Or  you could draw them and write a sentence or a paragraph below; you might want to make a picture using other media – e.g. cotton wool for the clouds.

I have attached some ideas to help you below.

Whatever activity you choose to do, please email it to gw13reidsiobhan@glow.sch.uk or, with an adult’s permission, upload it on to Twitter @St_BarbarasPS.

It is important to do a little bit of work each day however it is equally as important to take plenty of breaks and get some fresh air.

Have a wonderful Wednesday Primary 7, I am so proud of all of your efforts.

Primary 7- Tuesday 19th May

Good morning Primary 7,

How did you get on with yesterday’s tasks? Remember to send me any work that you have completed and I can have a little look at it.

To begin our day we will say the morning prayer.

God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.

St. Barbara, pray for us.

Here are today’s Health and Wellbeing and This Is Our Faith tasks-

Tuesday 19th May- Health and Wellbeing

Yesterday we had a look at making healthy snacks and the skills you need to create something delicious in the kitchen!

Today as we get closer to Sports’ Day next Tuesday, let’s be a little more energetic with a dance and then some yoga!

Tuesday 19th May- TIOF

Yesterday we were looking at the Ten Commandments and Jesus’ message to,

‘Love one another as I have loved you.’

I asked you to think about your families and how much you love them. I also reminded you that Pope Francis has told us all to care for others, ‘No ifs, no buts!’

Today I would like to think about the people living in the same house as you; there might be two of you, there might be six of you! It doesn’t matter. Now I would like you to think of FIVE little things that you could do this week for those in your home. It could be that you set the table, make your bed, clear up after a meal, make someone a cup of tea or even take the vacuum cleaner for a walk!

When you have selected five things, draw some heart shapes and inside each, draw or write your tasks. You can make some extra hearts for decoration. Colour or decorate them carefully. Next make a circle wreath-shape like the picture below or if you have a paper plate, use that. Attach your heart shapes and display your Caring Wreath somewhere you can see it easily. Carry out your tasks this week and show that you care – no ifs, no buts!

Please email your Caring Wreath to gw13reidsiobhan@glow.sch.uk  or, with an adult’s permission, upload them on to Twitter @St_BarbarasPS and to Pope Francis’ Twitter @Pontifex

Have a terrific Tuesday boys and girls and remember if anyone would like to put an order in for a leavers’ hoody, and haven’t already done so, let me know and I will add your name to the list.

Primary 7- Monday 18th May

Good morning my super sevens ,

Did you have a nice weekend? I spent the weekend reading a book, going a nice walk and relaxing. Getting out a walk and breathing in the fresh air helps me feel relaxed at the moment. What are you doing to relax during lockdown?

Let us begin our week by saying our morning prayer. Close your eyes and say the special prayer to our Guardian Angel to keep us safe and protected.

We are going to wake our brains up this morning by trying this little brain teaser. Can you say the colour and not the word? It’s a lot harder to do than you think. Took me a few attempts to get it right.

Healthy Snack Day!

We’re heading towards our Virtual Sports’ Day next Tuesday and what better way to prepare than to think about healthy snacks for the day.

They don’t need to be fancy…just healthy and delicious.

Have a look at some of these:

Try to create a healthy snack of your own. What ingredients might you need?

Cooking Skills for Learning, Life and Work!

Depending upon your age, you could practise some of these skills  as you prepare your snack. You might need to ask an adult for help.

You will be using skills that will be with you for the rest of your life. These skills are progressive. That means that if you haven’t peeled or sliced ingredients before (see the Primary 1 list) you will need to practise these before you move on to the next list!

Remember to wash your hands before you begin!

Monday 18th May- R.E.

Yesterday was the sixth Sunday of Easter. In the Gospel, Jesus said that if you love him, you will keep his commandments.

Commandments are rules. However God’s rules are all about love – about loving God and each other. If we love someone, we try our very best to show that by being polite, kind, generous and happy when we talk to them or about them to others.

You have rules and home and we have rules in school. Just like the Ten Commandments, our rules are all about looking after each other and doing the best for each other so that we can all be happy together at home or in school.

Sometimes we break the rules – adults as well as children. If we break God’s rules, we call that sin. Don’t worry though, we can make it better.

Just like at home or in school, if we are sorry and say that to the person we have hurt – and try our best not to do it again – God will forgive us because he loves each one of us so much.

We can read about the Ten Commandments which were given to Moses in the Old Testament which is the first section of the Bible.

You can see them here. Read them or ask an adult for help then chat to someone in your family about them.

In the New Testament (the second section of the Bible), Jesus spoke about love all of the time. In fact, he made a ‘New Commandment.’

He asked us all to, ‘ Love one another as I have loved you.’

If you think about it – we all love ourselves and look after ourselves.

Jesus is saying simply that we should love everyone else as much as we love ourselves. If we all did that, the world would be a much happier place! In fact, if we all did that then we would be following the Ten Commandments without even realizing it!

At Easter, Pope Francis told us that we should love and care for each other, ‘No ifs, no buts!’

Today, let’s think about how we love each other: our family and our friends.

I would like you to choose one of the following activities. You can download and print a picture or you can make one of your own. When you have finished it, place it somewhere where all of the family can see it to remind yourselves of how just much you love and care for each other.

Please email your pictures to gw13reidsiobhan@glow.sch.uk  or, with an adult’s permission, upload them on to Twitter.

This is another short week as we are off on Friday so try your best to remain focused. Remember to take plenty of breaks and get out in the fresh air. I look forward to hearing from, you can send me over anything that you have been working on over these past few weeks.

If anyone has not put in an order for the leavers’ hoodies and would like to get one please email me on gw13reidsiobhan@glow.sch.uk and I will add your name to the list.

I hope you have a marvellous Monday!
