I hope you all have a great first day back, if you need anything I’m only an email away –ย shreenann@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk

Many people have had their life changed through their devotion to Mary. Research someone from history who changed things through their devotion to Our Lady.
For Health and Wellbeing today I would like you to find out about UNICEF an organisation founded by the United Nations.
What is UNICEF and how is it helping children like you all around the world?
Remember you can still choose another task from your updated learning grid and there are other tasks on Sumdog, StudyLadder, FirstNews and Scholastic Books.
๐๐Good morning to our Primary 4/3 Superstars!!๐๐
I have enjoyed looking at all your work and I can see how hard you are working!!ย I hope you had a lovely day in the sunshine yesterday.ย The blue skies were amazing!!ย ย I didnโt see a cloud in the sky.
Letโs begin with our morning prayer.ย ย Can you remember how to say the Sign of the Cross in Spanish?๐
Morning Prayerย
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our day’s work,
we ask you to help us to use properlyย the many gifts you have given us
so that we may fully benefit from our day together in school.
Amen
Now let’s say a Hail Mary in Spanish.ย Close your eyes and take a moment to remember all of the people in the world who are in need of a little prayer.ย We especially remember all of our NHS workers who are working so hard to help everyone who is sick in hospital.ย I have attached a little card to help you with the words.
Once we have finished we will ask St Barbara to intercede for them.
St Barbara, Pray for them; St Barbara, Pray for them;ย St Barbara, Pray for them
**Primary 4 First Communicants**
Boys and girls I know most of your Communion Workbooks are in the classroom but I am attaching a link that will take you to an online copy so that you can work through your books with your parents when you can.ย There is no need to print off the booklet.ย If you record your work at the back of your home learning jotter we can transfer it into your Workbook once we are back in class.
โEach Sacramental Workbook is copyright.ย Consent is granted to copy, distribute and share these Sacramental Workbooks up to the time that our Government have allowed pupils return to normal school activities.ย They will be removed from this website thereafter.ย In downloading the content you agree to these terms.โ
Health and Well-being
Okay boys and girls, let’s get started with a little bit of exercise to waken you up.ย As we have been using Spanish already this morning, I thought it would be good to show your family our “Hula en espaรฑol” exercise we do in assembly!!ย Remember to get them to join in with you!!
You can use your daily walk to make up the rest of your exercise for today.
Literacy
To begin our literacy I have attached the following document for you to choose your starter for today.ย Remember I gave you the first page to complete last Thursday.ย ย You can choose one for today.
As you have been doing a good bit of writing in your jotters over the week,ย I have set you a task in First News – you will see that you have to complete the comprehension activity on the UK News article dated 4th May.ย I really enjoyed reading about all the interesting things happening around the UK over the last week.ย Remember you can revisit the article at any time to help you with your answers.ย I will be checking your work so remember to give a detailed answer when asked to type the answer to any questions.
To finish off your literacy work today, find a quiet space and read for 15-20 minutes.ย Remember if you are unsure of any words you come across, use a dictionary to look up the meaning.ย Also find out which part of speech the word is.ย You could record them in your jotters.
Numeracy
To get us started let’s recite our tables.ย Start at the 3 times table and go as far as you can.ย I think you could look at your grid for the stepping stones challenge,ย Try to beat your record with a few of your tables today.ย Remember what Mrs Graham was saying, know your tables really helps you with your division work.
Please choose one of the attached worksheets to practise your tables.
Well boys and girls you have been working very hard over the week and remember to try as many activities as you can.ย Please do not worry if some days you don’t get everything completed.ย If you need any help remember to email me.ย I will be available all day and you can get me on SBoyce@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk or gw09boyceshirley2@glow.sch.uk – you can also send me your work or upload onto Twitter.
Yesterday you looked at a very important event that happened 75 years ago.ย We should have been on holiday on Monday 4 May but because of this important event the holiday was changed to tomorrow, Friday 8th May.ย ย The link below will give you a few ideas of things that you could do, with your family, to celebrate this event.
I know our holidays have not been quite the same over the last few months, but you will be able to relax with your families as you are having a break from your school work until next Tuesday when Mrs Graham will be back.
Finally remember to make some noise for all our NHS workers tonight at 8.00pm.ย ย ๐๐๐๐
How are you all today? I hope you all got on okay yesterday whilst I was in the hub.
Are you all enjoying the wonderful sunny days we’ve been having? I certainly am! We might not be able to do lots of things during Lockdown but one thing I am thankful for is the beautiful weather we’ve had recently. It has really made me smile. โ
Have you made your bed and had your breakfast? Let’s begin another fun filled day of learning.
Letโs begin our day with our morning prayer.๐๐ป
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together in school. St. Barbara, pray for us.
Below I will include any additional information that will help to support your child with the tasks that I have assigned for today.
Literacy๐ก
Common Words
Common Word Hopscotch
All you need for this fun game is some chalk and a pebble or beanbag. Go outside and create a hopscotch pattern just like the one below. Choose some of your trickier common words and write them in each square. There are lots of ways to play but one way is toย throw the pebble/beanbag onto hopscotch board.ย Whichever word the beanbag/pebble lands on is the word to be read. Repeat until you have read all of the words at least once.
Common Word Football โฝ
This activity is super fun, especially if you are a huge football fan.
What you need: cards with sight words on them, cones (or bucket or cups or sticks), aย ball and a marked goal area.
Read each of the words aloud to an adult as you dribble the ball around the cones. When you get to the end of the cones, you can take a shot.
Common Word Twister ๐ช
What You Need: Twister Game, paper, pen and tape or you can create your own gameย –ย outsideย with some chalk.
Fill each circle with your common words. Play, laugh and learn.
Most people have sent me an email and have been reading their assigned books on Scholastic. If you havenโt been able to access this resource yet and would like your childโs login details, please send me an email. lmceleney@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.ukย orย gw13mceleneylauren@glow.sch.uk
The competition begins at 9am and ends at 2.30pm. Who will be crowned todayโs Maths Champion? I will announce the winner before 3 oโclock on our class Glow page. Good luck! ๐ค

Bring Flowers of the Rarest ๐
Remember boys and girls, all of these activities are just suggestions. Just do what you can. Take plenty of breaks and get some fresh air.
Tomorrow is a bank holiday and Monday is an inset day so I will not be posting any more work on our class Glow page until Tuesday. Enjoy your long weekend, it is very well deserved. I hope you have a fun and relaxing few days.
Remember I will be back on later today to announce our Sumdog class champion. Give the competition your best shot! Look out for a post around 2.45pm.
Have a fabulous day everyone. I would love to see some pictures of your wonderful work.
It’s a special day today…it’s Happy Thursday! Why is that? Well tomorrow is a holiday and Monday is an INSET day – that means you get a rest until Tuesday!
So, the sooner we get to work, the sooner we get to that holiday!
As usual we’ll begin with our morning prayer:
God Our Father, as we prepare to begin our work today we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us so that we may fully benefit from our day together. Amen.
Health and Wellbeing
Let’s get into a HAPPY mood! So, play the video and dance like no-one is watching you!
Literacy
Yesterday you were working on an extract from ‘Why the Whales Came,’ by Michael Morpurgo. The answers to the comprehension and language questions can be found below.
Please say another decade of the Rosary in front of your May Altar. Remember to pray for the sick, for those who have died, for you and your families as well as all of our fabulous NHS and Keyworkers.
Good Shepherd
On Monday I asked you to create a 3D Good Shepherd scene. Below you can see a wonderful one made by Rachel!
Terrific work, Rachel! I can’t wait to see some more, Primary 5!
Art and Design
As it’s NHS and Keyworker Thursday I saw this idea which I thought that you might like to try. It involves painting a stone in support of the NHS/Keyworker groups. You could try it when you have some free time and then put it on display for others to see.
ย
Well Primary 5, I think that you have completed enough tasks for today.
I hope that you have a lovely, long weekend with your families. Stay safe! I’ll see you on Tuesday!
I hope you all managed to have some fun in the sun yesterday. Thank you for working so hard and to the parents who are keeping in touch with us. It is lovely to hear how you are getting on.
Tomorrow is the celebration of VE day, which stands for Victory in Europe day.ย It is the day Germany was defeated by the Allied forces marking the end of the Second world war.ย You can read more about it here:

I hope you all have a lovely long weekend and I will be back with you next Wednesday.
