New lunch ordering system

Autumn/Winter School Lunch Menu

From 19th October 2015, a new band system will be introduced for children who have school dinners.

Each morning in class, the children will select their dinner from a choice of a Main Meal (Option 1), Hot Snack (Option 2), Baked Potato (Option 3) or Snack2Go (Option 4). They will be given a coloured wristband to co-ordinate with this choice.

This system ensures children get their first choice of main meal.

The new school menu will be sent home tomorrow, which will be on a rolling 3-week basis. Your child can see what is on the menu in advance for each coloured band. Please take the time to plan ahead with your child so that they know what they would like to order in the morning.

Each meal comes with a choice of soup or desert or fruit and yoghurt, which the children will also pre-order with their meal selection.

Children from P4-7 who want the Snack2Go option must visit Breakfast Club to place their order.

Every week, the lunch menu will also be posted on the school Twitter feed (@staneprimary) and is also emailed to anyone who has subscribed at http://bit.ly/stane-email

P.1/2 Science

Primary 1/2 and Primary 2 have been working together for Science and we have been learning all about Our Senses.  Today we were focussing on sight.  We learned about the different parts of the eye, from the eyebrow, eye lids and lashes to the pupil, iris and the sclera. We learned about the functions of these and even labelled a diagram.  We also had the opportunity to wear visual impairment glasses and try to complete different tasks, such as an assault course and drawing a line through a maze.  The last group played different games such as Eye Spy and ‘Where’s Wally?’

Day 1 at Kilbowie has been a success!

We are all ready for bed and are exhausted after an exciting first day! After a bus journey that felt really quick, we arrived at Kilbowie at lunch time. The children did really well making up their beds! We were impressed! We had a lunch of rolls, crisps and fruit which was enjoyed by everyone.

This afternoon the children split into their activity groups and met their instructors. Both groups went on a tour of Kilbowie and did fun things around the centre.

After a delicious dinner of chicken fajitas and chocolate cake we then got our waterproof jackets on and went outside for two nighttime activities. The children all worked well as a team and the rain didn’t stop us. Check out our school Twitter for some photos.

Tonight the children shared their favourite part of today! Here is what some of them said:

Miller – I liked when I went on a tour with my group today to the sea.

Lewis – I really like the view. When we were going to see the sea it was awesome.

Marc – I loved climbing on the rocks at the beach because it was fun.

Robbie – My favourite part was when I was playing the game camouflage because I won twice.

Cody – My favourite part was climbing along the beach front.

Aiden – I really liked going into the water.

Louise – I love the mountain walking.  I think it was good because we had to try and get over big rocks.

Kirsty – My favourite part of today was walking around and seeing all of the different parts of Kilbowie.

Erin – I love the Kilbowie building and the feeling of being here. I like all of the free time we got today.

Emma Louise – I really liked the night activities because we got to do lots of team work and explore.

Joan – My favourite part of today was when we walked down to the sea and had to climb over rocks and I almost fell in.

Jennifer – I liked walking across all of the rocks and when I slipped and my wellie got all wet.

Jessica – My favourite part of today was climbing over the castle wall.

Breehann- My favourite thing today was the tour of Kilbowie.

Hailey – My favourite part was the quest to find all of the cities tonight. I loved running about in the dark!

Hopefully we all have a good nights rest and wake up tomorrow ready for a day of Safari and Hill Walking!

Good Night!

General Information

The Primary 7 children will be attending Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban this week. I am sure that they will have a great time participating in all of the outward bound activities and meeting new friends from the other local schools going with them.  You can keep track of how they get on using this blog or the school Twitter page.

From October 19th, the dinner hall will be introducing a Coloured Band system to allow the children to order their lunch choice in the morning. This has been successfully been rolled out across the authority. It ensures that the children get exactly what they want for school lunch. A separate information letter will be sent home, along with the menu for next term.

The new minister from Shotts EU Congregational Church, Reverend Jonathan Abernathy-Barclay visited the school last week. (He wants the children to call him Jonathan.) We look forward to seeing him at our assembly this week.

Ancient Egyptian Artefacts

The boys and girls from Primary 3 have been extremely busy this week, learning all about Ancient Egyptian Artefacts.

They have used the information to create new and exciting replica artefacts.

Some of the children from Primary 3 and 4/5 have also brought in their Pyramid Projects. These look wonderful and we will have them displayed during the class assembly.

Ahoy! Look at the fun we had at our Pirate themed transition day!

Primary 1/2, Primary 2 and the Nursery (PM) children had a blast this afternoon while enjoying activities based on our shared learning theme of Pirates.  Our Nursery children joined their school friends and were happy and confident while working in the school setting.  A great start to our transition process!

The children made pirate hats to wear while they joined in with some singing, dancing and pirate games.  I was very impressed with some of their pirate dance moves!

We investigated the sea creatures we found in the frothy sea bubbles, and hunted for treasure buried deep in the sand.  We even buried some of our own treasure on desert islands made out of playdough, and made up stories about where our pirates got the treasure from and what they would do with it next!

We finished off by decorating a pirate cupcake to enjoy as a treat for all our hard work!

Outdoor building!

Yesterday primary 6/7 and primary 5/6 went outdoors… thankfully it wasn’t raining. The challenge for the classes was to build a tent/shelter.

As part of the Scotland topic, someone coming to visit on a tour had lost their tent. In small collaborative groups the children had to come up with a shelter that would provide them all with cover and stand up to the weather.

At the end we had group and peer assessments, where all the children got the opportunity to view others work as well as provide feedback to what went well or what could be improved.

What a great afternoon.
