Mathematics

Mathematics & Numeracy

Mathematics plays an important role in our daily lives. At Stane Primary School, our aim is to give our children the knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to use mathematics in everyday situation, whether for domestic, social, recreational reasons or for further study.

Maths lessons are planned to provide a balance between practical activities and independent learning. All classes adopt a practical stations approach to mathematics. We provide an appropriate balance between the various aspects of the mathematics programme, which are:

  • Information handling
  • Number, money and measurement
  • Shape, position and movement

Pupils are encouraged to use mathematics as a mental and oral skill. We use a range of commercially produced, teacher produced and web based materials, guided by the North Lanarkshire Maths Pathways.
