Transition Fun at Stane!

Our pre-school children joined us along with their parents and carers this morning for a fun filled filled transition session, as they get ready to move into Primary 1.

Parents and carers met with Mr Clark in the hall for an information session about starting school, while the children were busy with some activities in the infant area.

We listened to a story called ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ where the children enjoyed joining in with all the actions and sound effects as we read!  We had to wade through the long grass and splash through the river before crawling through a snowstorm and creeping through a dark cave!

We then went on our own bear hunt around the school.  We found a panda bear in the school office and some brown bears in Mr Clark’s office and outside the staff room! The boys and girls found out where lots of important areas of our school are as they hunted.

We were all great at re-telling the story using some mini figures and the water, mud, grass and ‘snow’ trays!

Afterwards the children joined their parents/carers in the hall where they all enjoyed a school lunch together.  Fish and Chips was on the menu and I think was enjoyed by both the children and the adults alike!

Healthy Eating Fun for the Nursery, P1 and P2

This afternoon the PM nursery children joined up with the P1’s and 2’s to continue their shared learning.

We have all been enjoying learning opportunities linked to a story called ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic.’  In the story, the main character Mr Grinling does not have a very healthy lifestyle, and eats far too much unhealthy food!  Our boys and girls worked together in groups to learn about healthier options that Mr Grinling could enjoy on his picnic!

We made some fruit smoothies, some caterpillar fruit kebabs, some strawberry mice and some healthy wraps.  The boys and girls enjoyed making the different healthy snacks…and enjoyed tasting them even more!

It was great to see how confident our nursery children now are when working in the primary school environment.  The staff were delighted with the fantastic work from the children today, well done!

Ahoy! Look at the fun we had at our Pirate themed transition day!

Primary 1/2, Primary 2 and the Nursery (PM) children had a blast this afternoon while enjoying activities based on our shared learning theme of Pirates.  Our Nursery children joined their school friends and were happy and confident while working in the school setting.  A great start to our transition process!

The children made pirate hats to wear while they joined in with some singing, dancing and pirate games.  I was very impressed with some of their pirate dance moves!

We investigated the sea creatures we found in the frothy sea bubbles, and hunted for treasure buried deep in the sand.  We even buried some of our own treasure on desert islands made out of playdough, and made up stories about where our pirates got the treasure from and what they would do with it next!

We finished off by decorating a pirate cupcake to enjoy as a treat for all our hard work!

Nursery Cluster Transition Event

In partnership with our cluster nurseries and primary schools, we are planning to hold an event for parents/carers of all pre-school children who will be starting school next August.  The purpose of this event is to provide parents/carers with information on the transition process, and an opportunity to address any questions you may have about your child starting school.

The event will be held in Calderhead High School on Thursday 22nd October 2015 – please put this date in your diaries!  Times will be confirmed by the end of this week, although the sessions will run while your child is at nursery.

Further information will be sent home in due course.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Come and Play at Stane Nursery!

On Thursday 8th October we would like to invite the parents and carers of all our nursery children, to come along and see for yourselves what we get up to at nursery!

This ‘Come and Play’ session will give you the opportunity to play alongside your child in the nursery, speak to staff, and find out more about the different learning opportunities offered daily.

Parents and carers with children in the morning session are invited to join us from 10.45am until 11.55am, and parents/carers with children in the afternoon session from 2.45pm until 3.55pm.  All children should attend the full session as normal.

An invitation to this event will be sent home with your child on Monday, please return the tear off slip to confirm your attendance.  Due to space constraints within the playroom, we are only able to allow one adult to attend per child.

We look forward to seeing you there!
