Healthy Eating Fun for the Nursery, P1 and P2

This afternoon the PM nursery children joined up with the P1’s and 2’s to continue their shared learning.

We have all been enjoying learning opportunities linked to a story called ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Picnic.’  In the story, the main character Mr Grinling does not have a very healthy lifestyle, and eats far too much unhealthy food!  Our boys and girls worked together in groups to learn about healthier options that Mr Grinling could enjoy on his picnic!

We made some fruit smoothies, some caterpillar fruit kebabs, some strawberry mice and some healthy wraps.  The boys and girls enjoyed making the different healthy snacks…and enjoyed tasting them even more!

It was great to see how confident our nursery children now are when working in the primary school environment.  The staff were delighted with the fantastic work from the children today, well done!

Primary 6 Enterprise Club 2016

The Primary 6 Enterprise Club have been working hard to raise money for the annual trip to The Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Playhouse and a restaurant. The children have come up with a lot of good fund-raising ideas.

Pupils will be able to order ice cream first thing each morning and it will be delivered to them straight after lunch.

Children can choose:

  • A Cone or a Tub – 50p (2 scoops of strawberry, chocolate or vanilla)
  • Added extras – 10p (sprinkles or raspberry sauce)

We look forward to opening The Stane Ice Cream Factory!

Nursery Burns Supper

The hall at Stane Primary was filled with Scottish music, food, singing and dancing this morning as our nursery children entertained their parents/carers and grandparents at our Burns Supper!

The children sang some of their favourite Scottish songs and performed a dance they had created to the song ‘Donald Where’s Yur Troosers!’ while our audience enjoyed a taster plate of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.

We were very lucky to be joined by a pupil from Calderhead High School, who played the bagpipes for us along with his Music Teacher who played the fiddle.  They helped us to create a fantastic atmosphere during the event.

Two of our P7 pupils led the event, confidently sharing the ‘Selkirk Grace’ and an ‘Address to the Haggis.’  Some of our amazing P6/7 pupils were also on hand to help serve the food and it was lovely to hear feedback from our guests about how well mannered they all were.

The children performed with such confidence, and had so much fun!  We are very proud of them all!

Starting Up Micro-Tyco

OUR PROJECT

 In school, P5/6 & 6/7 have started a new topic/project on a charity called Micro-Tyco.

Micro-Tyco is a competition that runs every February and November. Micro-Tyco gives a donation of £1 and the school has to raise as much money as possible from that £1. To raise this money, our school is taking part by selling goods made of re-usable waste, which ties in with our Eco topic…

The money made by this project is then invested by a charity called WildHearts who help to give loans to poor entrepreneurs in developing countries by means of a business loan.

In class we have set up our own company

We all have jobs.

  • There are 2 bloggers who write the posts all the time updating you on the progress of the project.
  • There is 1 manager and 2 assistant managers who will oversee the project.
  • There are 2 photographers who will keep a visual record.
  • There are 3 accountants who will keep track of all the money coming in and out…
  • There is a resource manager, who is responsible for ensuring that we have enough supplies.
  • The advertising manager is in charge of the team promoting the goods.
  • There is a sales and marketing team.
  • The quality control team ensure that the goods are of good quality and suitable to be sold.
  • Finally there is the production team – some would say the most important because without them we would have no goods to sell.

We have been busy in class making products that we can sell to the community.

Some people have been making book marks and lots of other creative crafts.

Watch this space for more information…
