Family Learning Open Morning

Thank you to the 80 parents, grandparents and friends of Stane Primary who attended our Family Learning Open Morning today.  It was wonderful to have some much purposeful learning taking place.

The morning began with Mr. Clark outlining some of the work that the school has been taking part in around attachment and connectedness.  The importance of understanding trauma and ‘Adverse Childhood Experiences’ was explored and the idea of internal ‘Sabre-tooth Tigers and Teddy Bears‘ was introduced from the work of Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk

Mr. Clark outlined how the school is aiming to be attachment friendly and trauma informed by sharing the updated Vision, Values and Aims statements of Stane Primary School and Nursery Class.

Later on, everyone had a chance to visit their child’s classroom and engage in a family learning activity to explore further our values of ‘Kindness, Compassion, Courage and Community’.

Thank you to everyone who participated to help shape our school’s shared vision and values.

Homework Test of Change

This week is Week 3 of our Homework Test of Change.

Completed projects should be brought to school by Friday 17th March 2017.

Homework Test of Change

This year, homework is a focus on the School Improvement Plan.  From feedback received from parents, pupils and staff we understand that Homework does not always meet the children’s needs and can  often be a source of conflict and frustration in many houses.

In order to trial four different methods for homework, we are conducting a ‘Test of Change’ over four weeks.  Children were issued with a leaflet today which outlined what will happen each week and how parents and pupils can have their say in the outcome.

If you did not receive your copy, download it by clicking the image below.stane-primary-homework-pilot1

Science Week

The girls from Primary 5/6 and 6/7 have enjoyed a visit from Lauren today.  She is a science ambassador who talked about the importance of encouraging girls to study science and a variety of different careers that this can lead to including different areas of Engineering. As a challenge the girls had to build the highest structure that they could.

Numeracy Open Morning

Thank you to everyone who attended the Numeracy Open Morning today.  It was lovely to see so many parents, grandparents and friends of the school come along to support our event.

In the morning, classes were working on Numeracy using a range of practical resources, including Numicon.  After interval, Primary 1 parents took part in an Active Literacy workshop.

Don’t worry if you couldn’t come.  You can view the Numeracy presentation shared by Mr. Clark below:

Numicon was introduced to parents using this video:

Active Literacy leaflets can be downloaded here

You can find out more about Numicon on the Numicon website.

Golden Time

Every week, the children in Primary 1 to 7 earn Golden Time as a reward for excellent behaviour and showing respect.

The teachers and staff work together to plan and organise fun activities for the children to enjoy.  The children from the afternoon nursery also join into the activities.

Have a look at the selection of fun Golden Time groups that took place last Friday.  The smiles on the children’s faces say it all!
