Chick it Out!

We’ve had a very busy and exciting few weeks in Primary 5h! In Maths we have been learning about Divisibility. We even made some ‘Divisibility Rule Books’ and went over what we had learned with each other.

We also learned what about Multiples and are now looking at Factors.

In Literacy we have been reading our new novels and completing different tasks on these. We completed the ‘Report’ genre in Story Writing and have now moved onto ‘Explanation.’ We know with this genre we have to explain how things work.

We celebrated Chinese New Year a few weeks ago. We learned how to use Chopsticks and made Fortune Cookies. We also discovered that Fortune Cookies don’t originate from China, they’re actually American.

Here we are with the Fortune Cookies we made:

Here we are trying to pick things up with our chopsticks!

Some of the children in our class took part in ‘Holy Cross has Talent’ they were all brilliant and we were very proud when we saw them perform 🙂

The highlight for everyone over the last few week has been the arrival of the Chicks at Holy Cross. Our class (and Miss Fitzgerald) were so happy about this as we were in charge of looking after them. We watched the pip and hatch and learned about  the whole process from the incubator to the brooder box, it was all very exciting.

In the end 9 out of the 10 eggs hatched so we had 9 chicks to look after. They were so soft, we had to learn how to handle them properly. We soon learned how messy (and smelly) the chicks can be. Miss Fitzgerald was glad to have so many willing helpers each day to help manage the chicks. All the other classes in the school came to visit our classroom and we taught them how to handle the chicks too. Miss Fitzgerald was very proud of how well we all handled it, everybody pitched in and took on the responsibility so well.

We’ve had a great few weeks with them and today we were sad to see them go but we know it’s time as they are getting bigger every day. We’ve learned so much about taking care of them and have worked well together.

We have lots more exciting things coming up in the next few weeks. Letters went out this week about our School Trip to Dynamic Earth, the date has been changed to Monday the 18th of March.

Our class will be leading Mass on Ash Wednesday, the 6th of March, we look forward to seeing some of you there.

Thanks for reading our blog!
