In Maths on Wednesday we came up with a strategy to help us to work out the answer to ‘how many more’ questions. We decided that if the question was, ‘how many more is 23 than 19?’ then we would begin at the lower number in value and count on until we got to the higher in value number. We also know that more than one strategy can work to solve problems in Maths and it’s important to work out the one that’s best for you.
On Thursday we discovered a strategy for ordering lots of 2 digit numbers from lowest to highest in value. Leo suggested looking at the value of the tens column first because the tens are higher in value than the units. We played a great game called ‘scatter and line up’. Mrs McFarlane tried to trick us by asking us to order lots of 2 digit numbers with the same value of tens. We had to then look at the units value. We were so good at this that Mrs McFarlane then threw in a few 3 digit numbers. It was an enjoyable challenge!
Who knew Maths could be so much fun?
