October Fun

The children in nursery have had a really busy start to their year. The children who have just joined us are all settling in very well and making new friends. The children who have returned are all looking after each other and the younger children. They are so responsible and love helping them to find their way around both indoors and outdoors.

We have been revisiting our learning by looking at our learning stories and talking to our families about them at home.

Plastics V Ceramics

We introduced ceramics to our house area as they offer children so much more than traditional plastic items.

The opportunity to manage risk

To understand consequences

Respect for resources

Weight, size and measure

Concentration improves and engagement levels increase.

We have been learning all about road safety with Ziggy. Lots of the children have had a Ziggy bag home and recorded their experiences with their families in the diary. It is great to share this information with other children. Ziggy even came with us on the sponsored walk and helped us to find safe places to cross the road.

The mobile library bus comes to Croy every fortnight and we all take a turn of walking to the bus and choosing books to take to nursery and listening to stories.

The Childsmile team and oral health educator have been in to see how well we brush our teeth. We know how important it is to look after our teeth.

We love eating our healthy snacks as we know they help us to grow big and strong and give us lots of energy. Sid and Shanarri often watch us at the snack table. They know how good we are at making our own snacks.

Our outdoor play in the garden has been enhanced by our new water feature. We had to figure out the best way to fill it full of water and used all our problem solving skills to work out that the hose was a good idea but it would be even better if it was longer.

We have a fabulous new park in the local area and have been visiting regularly to play there. It is a place where we can build our physical skills, learn to cooperate with each other and assess any risks while figuring out how to have lots of fun. It is also the perfect place to have a picnic snack before heading back up the stairs to nursery.

Our local area has so many exciting places to play and learn and the most recent discovery is this forest area where we can develop our sense of wonder and awe about everything we find in nature. Everyone of us finds something different when we are there. Some of us love to build dens, or climb or ask questions about the things that spark our curiosity.

As part of our maths and health and wellbeing experiences and outcomes this term each group set up a fruit stall and our wonderful parents, grandparents and carers came in to be our customers and we sold them five pieces of fruit for 50p. One grandparent said this was a real bargain! Hi-5 for Fruit who provide the food for our snack each day supplied the fruit. We were excellent shopkeepers too!
