Time flies! We have now been at school for a whole month and we have all settled in great!
This week has been as busy as ever. In Maths we have been continuing to work on number recognition, order, formation and counting skills. We have been working on the number before and after and have discovered that we can count anything at all and that the arrangement of objects doesn’t matter when counting. As long as we don’t add anything or take anything away, the quantity stays the same. We have discovered that it is easier to count things when they are in a line but it doesn’t matter what end of the line we start counting from. We have also been continuing to explore shape through play activities.
In Literacy we have been working on the ‘s’ sound. Our ‘s’ table is overflowing! Thanks for all the donations! We are continuing to work on rhyming words through books, games and nursery rhymes. We have also been exploring words which start with the same sound and made up some silly sentences as a class. Our favourite was, “Sam slides on silly submarines!” Our storytelling lesson was ‘I am brushing my teeth.” Our pictures were fantastic! We added so much detail and the difference in our drawings in a month is amazing!
In Science we have been exploring our sense of touch and played a fun feely bag game. We were really good at guessing what we could feel without looking at it. We used some great words to describe what we felt.
We will soon begin our topic on Autumn. If you have anything which would help us learn, for example books or photographs, we would really appreciate it if we could borrow them.
We went to mass to celebrate our school feast day today. Mrs McCann was very proud of our behaviour.
We are looking forward to our open afternoon next Thursday. We can’t wait to show off some of the exciting things we are doing at school.
Thanks for reading our blog. See you on Thursday!
