Holy Cross Primary

Hello from Primary 1

We have had a fun-filled 2 weeks, including a well earned holiday!

We were very excited to perform our Scottish poem ‘Robin Reidbriest’ at our special assembly. We were a bit nervous about performing on the big stage but we did so well and it wasn’t as scary as we thought. You can watch our performance on the school Twitter page.

In Literacy we have been working on the sounds y, v and q. We have been working hard on blending letters to make words and have been writing sentences dictated by the teacher. Our next step will be for some of us to dictate sentences for our friends to write. Mrs Keith came to visit us and she was amazed at the imaginative stories we made up using our choice of characters and props. Some of us even got to perform them at the parent workshop.

Primary 1 will be doing lots of storytelling as we had a letter from a dragon asking us for help. Fairyland is disappearing because people aren’t reading enough Fairytales any more. We are going to do lots of great work on Fairytales to help Fairyland come back. We can’t wait!

In Maths we have been exploring time. We have been looking at activities that we could do in a second, a minute or an hour. We timed how long it would take us to walk round part of the school. We then had a guess at how long it would take to walk a bit further. We are looking forward to exploring clocks and will learn to tell the time using o’clock such as 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock etc.

We have nearly come to the end of our gymnastics block in PE and have loved using the apparatus to practise rolling and balancing and we have been making up short sequences of movements. Here we are hard at work in the gym.

We have really loved out Toys project and will be sad to move on. We particularly enjoyed learning about old toys and had great fun playing with some old toys which we borrowed from the resource centre. Thanks again to all the parents and grandparents for sharing their experiences of toys and for sending in pictures and toys for us to look at.

Today we were entertained at our annual talent show, ‘Holy Coss Has Talent’ and we were very impressed with the performers from P5-7. There were singers, dancers, comedians, gymnasts and more. What a talented bunch!

Thanks for reading our blog. See you all next time!
