Since our last blog we have been very busy and have been working our socks off! In Literacy we have started work on the spelling of the common words we have been learning to read. We are working on putting these words in simple sentences and have been focusing on capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We are doing so well! These are some of our core targets in writing and we are working hard to remember them. Our writing lessons have been about our favourite toys and what we like to do in Winter. We have given Mrs McCann a hard job when it comes to picking star writers! Using our word wall for common words and having a go at sounding out other words is giving us some independence with our writing.
In Maths we have been working on number stories for 8, 9 and 10 and we have been using lots of strategies to ensure we get all the sums. We have also been practising different strategies for calculations within 10. Some of us are using cubes and some are using numberlines. Next we will be learning how to put the highest number in our head and count on. We have also been exploring information handling and have been learning about tally marks, pictographs and carroll diagrams.
This week in health we were talking about medicines and things that are safe to put in our mouths. We know that medicines make us feel better but should be stored out of reach to keep us safe and that only adults should touch medicine and give us medicine. In PE we have been using equipment to practise rolling and balancing. We loved using the balance beam.
We are really loving our Toys project. Thank you to everyone who has returned the questionnaire. It has been so interesting to learn about toys from the past and to see photographs of them. We now know lots of ways to find out about the past. We saw a picture of Elizabeth playing on a truck which her daddy played on when he was little. We loved Cassidy teaching us a game which her mum used to play. It is great to pass these games from one generation to the next. Next week we will look at some old toys which have come from the resource centre.
We are looking forward to performing ‘Robin Reidbriest’ at our Scottish assembly on Tuesday and of course to our long weekend off!
Thanks for reading our blog. See you next time!
