Happy New Year from Primary 1

We hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Primary 1 are back and are ready for lots of hard work! Over the past fortnight we have been really busy and couldn’t wait to get started after the long break.

In Maths we have been exploring addition stories for 6 and 7. We are getting really good at working these out using practical materials. We know that the higher the number, the more number stories there are for that number. We have really been enjoying exploring doubles and near doubles. We know that a double is when we add equal quantities, for example 4+4. A near double is just one away from being a double, for example 3+4. We have just finished off our work on pattern and enjoyed making fruit skewer patterns to end this unit of work. They were delicious!

In Literacy we have been exploring w, o and b. We have been working on different reading strategies but in particular using the first letter of the word and on trying to sound out smaller words we are unsure of. Our blending is coming on great! Our writing this week was about our favourite toy which ties in well with our toys topic which we have just started. We have also been making our spelling words on magnetic boards and writing our own sentences using our words.

In PE we have been continuing with gymnastics. We have been doing some floor work on the mats and travelling accross the mats in different ways.

Next week we will be learning a Scottish poem for our Scottish assembly. We will be learning ‘Robin Reidbriest’ so look out for it in homework folders.

Well done to Austin, our star of the week.

See you all soon! Bye for now!
