It’s our first week back at school after our lovely Christmas break. We were all excited to tell Mrs Doherty about our Christmas holidays. Santa visited us all so we happy that we made it to the NICE list!  What an amazing time we all had, we are all very lucky boys and girls.  Now that we are back we are working hard on showing our initiative and settling quicker to our tasks.

MATHS – This week we for our Number we are continuing with learning strategies for addition and subtraction.  We have learned that using strategies help us work the answer out quicker. This week some of the strategies we have been using are:

add on 9 (+10,-1)                 adding 11 (+10,+1)

adding 19 (+20,-1)               adding 21 (+20, +1)

For our beyond number topic we learned about the compass point and how to use a compass correctly by setting it to North.

LITERACY – In reading we are continuing to learn all our spelling words and use the reading strategies more independently.

In writing we finished our block on persuasion.  Yesterday we write a persuasive letter to NLC to try and convince then to build a skatepark in our local area.  Mrs Doherty said that we are really good at using persuasive language.  Some persuasive phrases we have been using in our writing are:

Congratulations to our weekly star writers: Noah, Erin, Kasiey, Gemma,Francis.

** Our Star pupil**  this week was Charlie.  Showing an eagerness in his learning and working hard in literacy and numeracy.  Well done Charlie.

HEALTH – Our new topic in Health is Healthy Eating.  We learned all about the Eatwell plate which helped us see the importance of eating a balanced diet. We investigated the Eatwell plate and found out that there are different food groups.

TOPIC – The MoonOur main learning this week was about the moon and the phases of the moon.  This was really challenging work but we played some games and came up with really good ways to remember the phases.  Here are a few we have learned about.  We are trying hard to look at the sky at night to see the moon!!

PE – Our focus this term is Possession Games.  This term we will be doing lots of different activities in PE to help us learn how to keep possession of different objects.

Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays.  One of these days in an outdoor day and we ask that warm outdoor clothes are sent in as part of the PE kit too!

Thank you for reading our first blog of 2019!  Have a great weekend.
