Holy Cross Primary

Primary 4 have been working so hard like the little elves at the North Pole.  We have been making final touches to our Christmas crafts and are now ready for the fayre on Saturday! We are hoping our parents and guardians can come along to buy some of our crafts.

Numeracy – I can talk about finding hundredths.

This week our new maths concept was all about fractions and we have been learning how to find hundredths of a shape by colouring and counting.  We have  also  compared hundredths. We know that hundredths mean 100 equal parts.  We had lots of fun learning about hundredths, especially when we used different lengths of string and had to work out the fraction of each.

Symmetry –  I can identify the lines of symmetry on a range of different shapes.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning all about symmetry and how to find a line of symmetry in a shape or design.  We really enjoy using the mirrors but now that we are in primary 4 we are trying hard to visualise where the lines would be. We have learned some new vocabulary with this topic; symmetrical, mirror image, equal, exact.

Health & Wellbeing –  Germs

Our new topic in Health is all about Germs.  We are learning to be germ busters.  We have carried out some experiments this week to show how quickly germs can multiply.  Our first experiment involved putting glitter on our hands to act as the germs and then shake hands with others to see how the germs spread.  Our second experiment involved BREAD – Ask us about this experiment.  We are still awaiting the results.  Over the next few weeks we will be learning more about common diseases, treatment for these and ways to prevent these too.

Unfortunately our rainforest topic has now come to an end! We have all really enjoyed it.

Writing – I can convey information to persuade my reader in different ways.

We have been learning lots about the genre PERSUASION.  We now know the importance of using persuasive language to try and convince our audience.  So far we have written a persuasive letter to the Brazilian President to stop deforestation and this week we created a persuasive poster for our school fayre.

Our Awesome Star Writers – Freya, Arianna, Charlie, Noah, Gemma & Lacey-Anne.

Well done to our Star Pupil – Abi-Rose
