Primary 1 have had a very busy and exciting time with Halloween being right in the middle of the week! We particularly enjoyed our parade and we did so well with our songs. I’m sure you will agree! We were right up on the stage in front of lots of people and we weren’t fazed by it one bit.
We read the Julia Donaldson book ‘Room on the Broom’ and watched the animation of it. Thanks Chris for bringing it in. It is a great story and really helps with our phonological awareness as it is a rhyming book. This week we have been exploring the letter ‘d’ and have done particularly well with our letter formation. We also made our own reading books to share with our families at home. We were authors and illustrators!
We have been continuing with our work on ‘more’ and ‘less’ and have been loving a game similar to Bruce Forsyth’s ‘Play Your Cards Right’. Mrs McCann holds up a playing card and we have to guess if the next card will be ‘more’ or ‘less’. If we are wrong then we are out. The winner gets a prize (though no cash, holidays or cars)! You could try playing this game at home. All you need is a pack of playing cards. We have a giant set! Next week we will be exploring what happens when we combine quantities.
On Thursday we went to mass for All Saints’ Day and Mrs McCann was very proud of our behaviour. Even Father Joe commented on how good the Primary 1 children were!
On Friday we had some visitors from the Nursery who came over for a play. A small group from our class swapped places with them and got to go and have fun in the Nursery. This will continue on a rota basis until all the children have had a chance to visit the Nursery.
We are looking forward to primary 5 coming next week to help us to make salt dough for our hedgehog models. They are expert dough makers. Remember to bring in a small box (around shoe box size) to make a den for the hedgehogs.
Pop back next week to see what we have been up to. Bye for now!
