Primary 2 – September Learning

Literacy

In Room 3, we have been learning all about The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson. We have enjoyed exploring the book and it’s characters, through descriptive writing and fun activities. We have learnt a Gruffalo song and even made up a Gruffalo dance. We also went on an outdoor adventure to search for creatures which might live in the deep, dark woods.

We have been making good progress through our phonemes. We enjoy using different and fun ways to learn our sounds. We love writing them using materials such as, chalk and glitter.

Maths

In Room 3, we have been working hard to master concepts, such as place value and addition/subtraction.

To help us with our addition and subtraction we have been using one of our Number Talks strategies – the number line. Room 3 enjoy using their frog leaps to complete tricky calculations.

We have been using Sumdog to improve our mental maths skills. We like competing as a class to unlock new games and earning a new pet.

Health and Wellbeing

In Room 3, we have settled in well and have enjoyed building new friendships. We have enjoyed learning about Tiddler, the little fish who tells tall tales. Tiddler has helped us think about some of the consequences of telling tall tales and how that can affect our relationships with others.

During P.E., we have been focusing on Football. We have been working on important skills which we can use during our game, such as ball control and passing accurately.
